Title: Anyone from Yorkshire?
Post by: Ian_D on 25 April 2008, 13:17:21
As above!

Do you fancy having a meet some time in Yorkshire somewhere?

I wouldn't mind putting names to faces etc!

Would be nice to have a mini fix-it-day, or just a little meet up and pub lunch etc?

Would anyone be interested?  :P

Another few quick thoughts...

I’m still a member on VVOC, and wondered about having a joint meet maybe?

What does everyone want to do at these meets?

Who organises these meets? Me? Or an Area Rep / Admin? (ie Organising places / things to do / prices etc etc?)

Another quick thought... If it’s local to me, I could sling the trailer on the back, and bring down my 4kw Generator, and prob my homemade air compressor too(with air tools etc) for a fix-it-meet?

Sky is the limit! :y

OOF normally have a couple of large nationwide meets each year. Last year it was the Lakes (Keswick) and Newent (Gloucestershire). These are normally 2 or 3 day events attended by members from all over the country and take place at selected camp sites. There's already another Lakes meet organised for June 27th-29th. See the following link.
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1205874019

These are great opportunities to meet everyone, check out cars, work on cars, BBQ's, get pi$$ed and have fun. ;) They are normally organised by a nominated person who knows the area.

Most of the other meets are more local to specific area's and organised among people in that area. Some of these are specifically to work on cars and help people out and some are just to meet and have a chat.

Hope this answers your questions. :y

Well, some jobs planned for my Mig soon are :

General service, eg oil, filters, brake fluid.
Change the autobox fluid and filter.
My car need a respray, I have most of the stuff, but not yet found somewhere to do it. I have never sprayed before, so could do with some a lot of help !.
I have almost all the bits to LPG my car, and want to do that as soon as I can.

Any one else with similar service plans that we can collaborate on ?.

I did the Oil and Oil Filter on mine on Wed, But ive still got a few jobs to do:

Autobox Oil Change
Rocker Gaskets x2
Spark plugs (x6 of course!)
Find the water leak
Rust on rear doors
Drivers door strap catch thing
And prob something else!

Now, I dont mind going 'All out', if we want a fix-it meet.

If i have a bit of notice I can happily Rebuild my air compressor etc into my trailer, along with 240v gen!

I have got a few boxes of genuine vauxhall sparkplugs too (if i can find them). So if anyone is after 4 or 6, PM me and then I can bring them with me for you!

I have a fair amount of tools I can bring.

I guess cambelt + tensioners too would be nice! (however I dont trust myself to actually put the belt on! - although I will remove everything upto this point!) ;D

I wonder if we could find somewhere to make a weekend of this? Tents + BBQ and a few drinks sound like an added bonus! :D

Alrighty! Been reading above, all sounds like a plan! I live Leeds and close to major motorways etc. Could do with changing my brake fluid, got some ready just havent got round to it! Will be willing to help out with general servicing too
Title: Re: Anyone from Yorkshire?
Post by: Ian_D on 26 April 2008, 14:34:11
By the sound of it, most people would like a fix-it meet of some description! And the rest are happy whatever!

If were to do a fix-it meet, it maybe an idea for us all to list exactly what we need when we got the location / time etc set, and then order it all in one go (bulk buying). :y
Title: Re: Anyone from Yorkshire?
Post by: amigov6 on 27 April 2008, 01:02:46
Regarding the location this is your baby so you need to assertain who's attending. If it's just a few blokes a large layby will suffice or if folks are bringing wives /children a services or family pub might be more in order. Just a few things to consider. :y

Old Post Office Pub near Wakefield comes recommended - I know it's got a large car park... I'm up for a meetup, I'm not too far away. And I own a selection of hammers.

i've just done a regional weather forcast & they reckon it's going to rain on 13th & 20th with 100% cloud cover   :'(

who knows how accurate this all is, but this week has a severe weather warning so maybe the 20th may be best on the off chance that 2 weeks is too far to forcast & they MAY be wrong.

as with most people i'm free for either day

we should let Ian_D decide as he put the initial posting   :y

This post drops up & down quicker than a h*****s knickers. I'm guessing it's 13/20th July but still not sure where. If there's a venue agreed let me know. If not you can all pile round here, can get two Migs on the front, two in the drive & one in the workshop for jobs needing doing, everyone else can park on the road/grass (cool neigbours) invade the house if raining etc. I'm only 5 mins (sorry officer) 20 mins away from Markey Mark. The date is close so maybe time to stop fannying around with the venue. Firm offer if you want it, let me know so i can organize BBQ/ Curry etc.
       Cheers, Guy. :D

Now that sounds ace!  :y

OK. I know we all work silly hours so can you give me a clue,
A:- Do you want to meet here?
     B:-When?
     C:-How many?
I know it's not strictly a Yorkshire meet but it's close enough & better than a car park/pub etc. If you get mucky you can shower (bring your own wash kit) & i can put a few people up on spare mattresses, settees etc if you want to drink (bring your own bedding)
Sort the date out between you & if it's on PM me for phone no. & address.
   Cheers, Guy. :y

Right we need to make a decision here! 13 or 20th, I personally think Guy should decide as he has generously offered his residence as a location, and I think it should be what ever is best for him.  :y
Title: Re: Anyone from Yorkshire?

Either are good for me, i work silly hours during the week but weekends are usually mine. If you want a beer bring your own as i drink voddy, same with soft drinks if you're bringing little "oofers" but i'll lay on food, tea coffee etc. If you want to tinker bring your own tools. The workshop's mine but most of the gear in it belongs to my mate Steve the TRACTOR polisher so unless he's here must be left alone. Otherwise we can stand about, eat, drink & talk bollix which we're all good at! :D Should be a good little mini meet, bring your cameras.
Once you've decided the date & are coming post on here & i'll PM you details. Cheers, Guy. :y

Given the timescale now i guess the 20th is favourite. I've left Markey Mark a phone message so hope he can book time off. This still only leaves us just over a week so can some one take the plunge & put thier name down to start the ball rolling so i know how many to cater for? 2 or 20 people, no worries but give us a clue or this mini meet will die a death. :'(

Hi guys,

A big thankyou to Rich for the PM (not been on here for a couple of weeks).
I'm gutted but can't make it. I've got a stag do I'm going to this Saturday and there's no way on earth I'll be fit to drive on the Sunday  :-/
Maybe we could organise another one as well for the middle of August or something?

Cheers everyone and hope you all have a great day

Ok. We've got enough attendees for a select Mini-meet although more are welcome, add your names. I've PM'd some with details but not all so could those WITHOUT address phone nos. post "details please" on here & i'll PM them to you. Would help if i know who likes chicken curry (only those attending please!!!) or burgers/sausauges etc so i can sort it on saturday. Local stores are open for kids drinks etc.
Lastly thanks to Ian_D for starting this off....sorry if i hi jacked your thead & richardirv for chasing people up. I've met Markey Mark already but look forward to meeting the rest of you on sunday.
P.S. The curry is homemade (no jar sauces) not too hot & dissappeared faster than a rat up a drainpipe @ Lakes 07!!!
       Cheers, Guy.

Just kidding ladies. Getting close now so those who need contact details speak up. Foodwise i'll get some basic bbq stuff from the butchers, will knock up some homemade coleslaw, potato salad etc. plus the infamous curry. If it's raining we'll bbq in the workshop. (Still room to get the nose of a Mig in as well for Markey Mark to tinker)
I'm working Sat morning, prepping Sat afternoon so once again speak up for my address or i'll have to trawl through my PMs so let me know please folks. Guy. :y

Got some sausages/burgers & bread rolls for the barbie. Weather can't make it's mind up but there's the workshop, gazebo or indoors so should be a laugh either way. Bring your cameras, See you at 1pm ish, Guy. :y

Regarding the location this is your baby so you need to assertain who's attending. If it's just a few blokes a large layby will suffice or if folks are bringing wives /children a services or family pub might be more in order. Just a few things to consider. :y

well there's always (woodall i think it is) services down towards junc. 32ish on the m1! not sure where the one up from that is (m18/m180/m1 or even m62)

If we are doing Motorway services. The best "Truck Stop" is the "Stockyard"  at Hellaby Jn 2 of the M18

I dare say Amigo knows it well. :y :y :y :y :y :y

Yeah i know the Stockyard Truckstop. In a car you're about 30mins. away. Stay on M18 northbound, come off @ j5 (Donnie Nth servs.) follow M180 past Scunnie to Immingham.
If you get to the '62 turn round!!!!!!!!!! :y

bit expensive mind..
i quite fancied swappin the omega lump for the commadore one ;)
