General Car Chat / Charging a milk float for the first time.
« on: 25 May 2025, 11:48:08 »
How hard can it be? :)

Plug it in and then come back in a few hours.

Well, I plugged in the MF* and immediately there was a message displayed on the screen of the Octopussy 7.4KW Zappi charger....WAITING FOR SURPLUS.

Absolutely no idea as to the meaning of this message so decided to pull the plug out and then try again, in a few minutes.

But of course, the plug refused to be removed even when repeatedly  pressing the black release button. WTF. :-\

An hour, and two bottles of Stella later I was finally able to release the plug. Presumably it was linked to some sort of timer.

Anyway, it seems I was trying to charge the MF using 'Eco mode' which  I later found runs on power generated by solar panels, recycled tampons, and dead puppies. You know, ECO stuff.........none of which I had to hand.

Eventually I figured out the menu on the Zappi, and using 'fast' the MF charged without any further problems.

PS....MF* in the context of this thread stands for 'Milk float' and not 'mother f*ucker' :)....despite me saying these words many times. >:D

General Car Chat / Topix vehicle summary
« on: 20 May 2025, 17:16:58 »
I had one of these for my second jaguar XFR, but can't for the life of me remember how I got hold of it.

It  contained details about the specification and parts that I was unaware of. For example, my car had the £3000 speedpack fitted.

Is the VIN number required?

General Car Chat / Who owns a milk float on here?

I'd like to pick their brains.

But the only one I can think of is Jimmy. If memory serves I think he bought an electric BMW that fell from the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down. >:D

General Car Chat / Received an email today....
« on: 27 April 2025, 18:53:31 »
.......from the man who bought the mighty Signum from a dealer in Bradford.

It turned out he had my email address because he was the same man who sold me the mighty beast way back in 2015. :)

Told me what a great car it was, and how he regretted selling her, and how he couldn't resist buying her back when the opportunity arose.

The cream always rises to the top. >:D ::)

General Car Chat / Date of manufacture V date of registration.
« on: 14 March 2025, 12:02:57 »
So, I'm thinking the humble little 2 series needs her first service sometime in June 2025, as the car was registered on 7th June 2023.

However, the service indicator annoyingly keeps informing me that a service is now due, March 2025.

Contact BMW UK who tells me the service indicator was activated upon completion of manufacture in Mexico, unlike the 3 year warranty that starts on the first day of registration. They go on to tell me any warranty obligations will be null and void if the car is not serviced within one month of the due date.

This date of manufacture v date of registration can cause problems because Jimbob found out that my last Omega (2.6 MV6)  was registered in December 2003, yet rolled off the production line in Germany in June 2002......some 18 months.

Where that car was stored for those 18 months before going to it's first owner I have absolutely no idea.

Muddy field perhaps >:D......Like loads of badly built BL crap form the seventies that they couldn't shift. Yes Tigger I am talking Morris Marina and other BL tat here. :D

Anyway, the dealer is 'reluctantly' going to reset the service indicator so everything lines up from here on in. :y

General Car Chat / Charger for Mrs Opti's planet-saving milk float
« on: 20 February 2025, 12:33:27 »
It took a fair bit of arranging.

The main cables around the electricity meter were 16mm and needed to be changed to 25mm. A new smart meter fixed this.

Following this the man from Octopussy refused to fix the charger because the earth connected to the ground spike was 'not to specification'

Another appointment made but the charger man then said the hot water pipe was not 'bonded correctly'......I still have no idea what this means. :D

Job done now though. :y

There were about 3 or 4 locations the charger could have been situated.....this is probably the best.

General Car Chat / The mighty Signum has been sold.

Ten years I have owned this car and she has never let me down. :y

However, nearly £800 each year to tax her is simply too much for the miles she does. :-X
