Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / Breaking 3.2 Elite Saloon
« on: 28 July 2020, 13:30:48 »
As per subject.  The engine, wheels and all the interior switches are spoken for, but pretty much everything else is up for grabs.  Parts can be shipped or collected from Near Daventry, Northants.
Not many body panels aren't damaged or rusty, but the sunroof works and I definitely don't need that, or the beige leather interior ;)

Omega General Help / Tech 2 to borrow
« on: 27 July 2020, 22:07:10 »
Please does anyone in the Northants area have a Tech 2 I can borrow, or possibly buy if they don't need it anymore?  I am hoping that it might help me diagnose my A/C problems and intermittent engine temp gauge.
Thank you.

Omega General Help / Air con 3.2V6
« on: 26 February 2020, 20:55:51 »
I have read the various guides and posts on here and am none the wiser.  Now that I've got the MV6 scattered all over the workshop (cam belts and oil leaks are the main jobs) i thought it worth exploring why the A/C doesn't blow cold air (when the weather is warm) or why it doesn't seem to demist  very well either.  I had it regassed this time this year which had appeared to work for about a week or two. I assumed the condensor had got a leak which is the usual suspect on the Carltons that I am more familiar with, or the compressor which was dripping oil from underneath.  Now it seems that the system was still fully pressurised, and so far there is no evidence of green dye around any joints.  The compressor was soaked in oil from a fairly big engine oil leak from the exhaust cam seals and cam cover gaskets.  I have got a new compressor, condensor and drier to fit, but what else can be tested or changed to guarantee a nice cold flow when the warmer weather arrives. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

One for the collectors, in an interesting colour, and very low mileage, if only the toy cupboard was big enough....I hope it goes to an enthusiast.

Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / 3.2 MV6 Parts or car wanted
« on: 24 January 2020, 14:06:46 »
I am trying to find a Limited Slip Differential rear axle for an Omega, and also either a complete dressed 3.2 engine or a pair of good cylinder heads and ancilliaries such as throttle bodies etc.
I would consider a running car MOT failure, spare or repair so at least I know that everything works.  I can collect with a trailer if necessary ideally no more than 30-40miles from East Midlands.

Omega General Help / Omega LSD
« on: 18 December 2019, 10:53:20 »
Does anyone know which or if any Omegas had LSDs fitted as standard, and what options are there for diff ratios? I assume diesels are different and manuals/autos or 4 cyl/V6.
I assume that police spec manual 3.2 would have an LSD, I was told they spec it so they can pull away from grassy verges...I'm sure it's more to do with showing off their advanced driving skills.
I'd like to fit one to my 3.2 (Auto) MV6, which doesn't seem to be so equipped :-[. If anyone has one, or a suitable donor rear end that could be rebuilt and a LSD fitted, please let me know.

Omega General Help / Alarm going off
« on: 11 December 2019, 11:59:10 »
Presumably this is the dreaded powersounder problem, but my car's alarm (lights and horn) has gone off on it's own a couple of times for no reason.  What is the procedure for removing it safely without compromising the central locking or immobiliser (if there is one)?

Omega General Help / Face lift Roof aerial gasket
« on: 27 November 2019, 08:34:01 »
Please can anyone help me to source a new roof aerial gasket for my 2001 Omega, it is a rounded rectangular shaped base not the elliptical one that was fitted to the earlier cars and Lotus Carlton.
Mine is very perished and I'd like to prevent a leak into the car and headlining if possible.  And before anyone suggests squirting a load of black mastic around it, that is very much a last resort, especially as it is at eye level and the rest of the car is quite tidy.  Even if someone has a spare aerial base that I can use as a template to model something from for 3d printing, that might be helpful. Thanks.

Omega Gallery / PVS at Bruntingthorpe
« on: 12 June 2019, 11:07:15 »
I followed these two into the show (sorry I don't know the owners names), and was hoping to have a chat but sadly my pass didn't let me park anywhere near and by the time I found them there was no one around. Then I came back later and they had obviously got fed up with all the Astras and Corsas and gone home.

Omega General Help / V6 Exhaust manifolds
« on: 19 May 2019, 22:12:55 »
Years ago I made these for a Vectra challenge car that was running on LPG as a marketing exercise for alternative fuels. The engine had also been built by Swindon Race Engines, but apparently the manifolds contributed an extra 20 bhp.  Also it gave the car a very distinctive howling engine note, which was particularly popular with fans and sponsors Calor. Now I'm thinking about making some inline versions for my newly acquired MV6. I would obviously have to fit some cats in the link pipes, and it looks as though all 4 lambda bosses could be moved to a suitable position either side of the cats to still give a worthwhile output to the ECU and avoid the dreaded EML warning. It looks as though there is plenty of room for each 3-1 to be fitted without having to resort to a slip on collector as pictured, which we wouldn't get away with cats fitted anyway because of potential leakage. This would only be a personal exercise because it would be far too time consuming to be commercially viable.
Probably just a pipe dream (ha, ha) but it's fun to imagine how it could sound, and the extra torque that it might generate.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Multi CD player
« on: 03 April 2019, 18:23:22 »
On the MV6 I have just bought has a Siemens NCDC 2013 fitted, which appears to need a cartridge to load CDs into the big slot in  the front.  In the service records there is mention of this cartridge not ejecting properly and it was recommended not to use it so it doesn't get jammed. There doesn't seem to be a multi CD cartridge in there, so I am wondering if it is possible to load a CD without this cartridge or if I got one (from somewhere?) can it be fixed so it doesn't jam, or is it a known fault. I also wonder how difficult it is to connect an MP3 player or similar to this sort of unit? without going to a new aftermarket stereo, which I'd rather not have to do, because I'd like to keep the dash all looking original. Thanks.

Hello, i am looking forward to finding out more from you Omega chaps, having spent a long time as an Autobahnstormer and having been involved with Lotus Carltons since building and racing one in the late 1990s.  I have now finally graduated to an Omega B, having just purchased what i hope is a nicely looked after MV6 3.2 auto.  I'll post up some images once I pick it up this week.
