in a word, No.  That software only works with the relavent hardware.

Works on OBD2 cars (although I never tried it on a desmond).

Cheap as chips. Leave the dongle in the glove box & you can clear the cat codes as soon as they pop up.

I was able to access the engine, gearbox and ABS/traction ECUs on my 2,6 & 3.2 V6

Could be a viable option

Trouble with ScanMyOpel - I've not used it for ages - was it claimed to do everything, but in reality couldn't do many Omega systems.  I've not got an Omega to try any more, but if coverage has improved and anyone has the required bluetooth interface, gotta be worth a punt (from memory, they do a freebie/trial)


2.2 petrol is very strictly EOBD, and inconsistent with OBDII, so generic OBDII scanners are not really recommended for it. Not quite sure how that will pan out with ScanMyOpel, as its not a generic OBDII software, but uses the generic OBDII hardware.  We need a 2.2 owner to try . Though it could be, for example, the genuine interface works and the cheap chinky clones we all own doesn't.

I've tried scanmyopel on my desmond and it can talk to the engine and autobox ecus ok reads the codes and clears them ok. It detects the ABS but I've not managed to connect to it.

I have an intermittent fault with the cam sensor (what a novelty) which upsets the auto box every so often and brings on the dash lights, it's cleared the errors every time thus far. I suspect the loom more than the sensor at this point but we'll see.

Is it a genuine sensor?

By genuine I mean a genuine GM one purchased from a genuine Opel dealer that you genuinely had to walk into...

2.0 was susceptibility to a loom fault, and was later modified.

2.2 more likely to be sensor itself. Needs to be dead cert genuine, not egay/Amazon/autovaux etc

I've no idea what's currently fitted, the one I will be fitting is a genuine one. I'm going to live with it until I'm ready to change the timing belt, probably in December. It only triggers about 1 to 2 times every thousand miles.

If it becomes more problematic (it probably will, making it an arse to start), its dead easy to change, as the cam belt cover comes off fine and easy on those
