McLaren

Reports out today that Audi have bought McLaren were swiftly denied by both parties, but it's well known that McLaren have financial problems having had to raise cash by selling and leasing back it's Norman Foster designed HQ in Surrey and a chunk of the F1 team.

Could be interesting to see what happens. One to watch!  :)

I thought no smoke without fire.

Great way for VAG to get into F1 plus a performance road car business to boot to complement the Audi range

Yes exactly. I've read since my OP that BMW are sniffing around as well.  :-\

Two or more suitors? That puts the price up! Good for Mclaren.

Not sure where F1 fits with the electric future? Easy enough to diversify. Coal powered series for India, China and Australian market? Batteries for the rest.

Pit stops would be 6 hours for a recharge. Half the race on Saturday and the other half Sunday?

It would be bad for the supercar market given that VAG already owns more than its fair share of the pinnacle brands... Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, Audi...  :-\

Mclaren has form with BMW as the bulk of the F1s produced had the BMW V12 fitted, even though it was originally offered with a choice of either BMW or Mercedes  V12s.

It’s bad enough that they also own more than their fair share of the normal market. And the marketing wank would have you believe that they're all different brands selling different products.  :-X

From memory, there is an engine freeze at the end of this season till 2025. I think that's why Horner is so worried with the recent apparent surge in Merc power, because if they can't get their power up before the end of this season then they're stuck with what they've got for the next 3 seasons.

From 2025 there are new F1 engine rules, and I think they're aiming to be using 100% biofuel, because that's much greener obvs ::).

No, F1 cars run on pump standard E10 fuel at the moment. Allegedly. ;D

One infamous drug dealer I had the pleasure of dealing with had a McLaren, had pictures of it on his cell wall parked in his driveway on his council estate in Manchester , his brain must have been up his arse.😁

Where does that stand if someone declared it all and paid appropriate taxes/NI with similarly above board employees?

Essentially running a drug business as an otherwise legitimate business?

Change these words to 'Pharmaceutical Enterprise' and I reckon it could be made to fly.

Never heard that one before...I thought that the BMW V12 was designed especially for the F1 road car due to the close relationship that Gordon Murray had with Paul Rosche, which stemmed from their days working together at Brabham. Also, no-one else was interested in trying to meet Gordon's aggressive performance/mass demands from a V12. The result wasn't quite the bespoke jewel that the press would have you believe as it was basically a dry sumped 750 V12 with E36 M3/S50 heads on it.

Ultimately, yes, but I recall at the time it was launched that there was potential...

627 BHP BMW 6.1 litre V12 in a car weighing only 1100 KG.

It was quite nippy. :)

Bro was one of the designers, working to GM.  It was always getting the (mostly) BMW engine from day one, with no chance of a MB one.  There is a lot of guff in the made up mags due to the fact the F1 team signed a deal for the MB "Grenade" engine at the time, but this had no impact on the Car division.

Can't argue with that  ;)

It was a vague recollection of summat in the press at the time, probably Autocar...

The M120 is a capable lump though, as Pagnini can testify 8)

Interesting picture of a longtail, and by the time that was around, Mercedes had their own plans to conquer LeMans with the CLK-GTR, so I am guessing a bit here, maybe a Big Mac was used as a mule to test their V12 ;) Gordon used an Ultima chassis as a mule for the BMW V12 before the F1 was born.
