mention in an earlier thread that i visited Istanbul as a young merchant seaman, whilst there i witnessed a crowd of locals having a go at a guy that was being protected by two turkish orthodox priests. however the crowd did get hold of him & apart from him getting severely beaten they gouged both of his eyes out.. the police were looking on but didnt interfere . i did find out later that he had raped a young girl & the priests were trying to escort him to the police.

Mob justice... 

I was driving into a rural town in Tanzania years ago and the centre/market area was pandemonium, looking like a riot about to kick off. 

I stopped because my turn off was somewhere ahead and a fella came over and said They've caught a thief and things will get ugly. You need to get out of here! 

The thief probably got necklaced, which is where they put a tyre around your neck, pour petrol in it and set it alight!   

Needless to say, when I spotted my turn off I hightailed it outa there!
