Rear Saloon Lights
« on: 06 February 2016, 09:09:42 »

What's the best way to open them up ?

Not sure if this is a common thing that happens over time, I suppose i have what you'd call algae or something that resembles it on the inside of the lense on the side the part between the wing / boot lid. It's on all the rear lamps, If this is a unheard of thing i'll get some pictures when possible if my description makes no sense  ;D

Probably doesn't help that the car is parked near trees, Especially with the damp weather etc..

Not really an issue yet but if it's a relatively straight forward job I'd like to clean them, If not will source some clean ones at some point.

Thanks in advance...  :y

The green mould normally only appears on the rubber seals around outside, and quicker removed with a pressure washer.

Not ever seen in inside

White vinegar is usually good at removing green goo.  Doesn't attack the plastic or rubber either.

If you Elite an MV6, does that make it an MVee-leet?

I had one fill up with water, still worked, but the MOT tester pointed it out so I took it off and drained it. If imagine, if left, it would have grown algae inside it. Obvious cure would be to remove and fill with vinegar, shake up, leave a while, then drain, rinse, dry and refit.

Nail brush and patience  ;) watch your fingers though, the lense edges are rather sharp :y

A bead of sikaflex once done might be q good idea to prevent recurrence... Obviously with the lights off the car ;)
