Omega General Help / oil cooler change
« on: 03 December 2007, 11:34:18 »
hi guys, not had much time to play with my mv6, but ive got the new oil cooler finally, ive had a search but i cant find out if anyone has done a oil cooler changer how2?

ive got a haynes manual, but i find its almost allways easier to get advice from someone whos done it.

ive worked on my 2ltr vectra but not the v6 or a omega before so any help will be greatly received!

i gather its a case of get the plenums off, drain the coolant (and flush) then take the oil filter off (is this needed?) then unscrew a few bits, remove the oil cooler. clean the engine up and reseal the new cooler with sealant then rescrew everything back up and refill with oil and water?

sounds about right?
anything i should be aware of etc?

thanks!

spose i had better introduce myself then  :) my names Dean and i come from Kent.

Ive just bought a s plate omega 3.0l mv6 estate that needs some work. its got suspected oil cooler failure and worse case scenario is the head gaskets have gone. the car runs fine and dosnt sound rough, ive got it towed where i can work on it.

im normally on vvoc.com as i own a vectra estate sri too. anything i should be looking for with the old girl? shes done 71,000 miles so far so i know the cambelt and water pump needs doing asap.

thanks all!

havent even had chance to clean it up yet. early signs show the oil cooler or head gaskets have failed. but apart from that it needs a good valet and a a little bit of rust treatment and she will be well on the way to looking half decent!

inside the seats are ok but the rear part of the centre consol needs attention as its hanging off. theres also a part under teh headlight control thats loose too. but for a 1998 car im happy, and i paid naff all for it too!! :D

heres a closeup of the problem area :)

and heres my other car not a omega but its still a vx!!

its a vectra estate 2.0i sri estate that ive had for a few years and have modded pretty much everything but the engine.

im going to start stripping the v6 down to get to the oil cooler and try and clean out the coolant system. ive not worked on a v6 before but my girlfriend has done, in fact shes owned a omega before and was involved in changing the engine over so shes going to be a big help!! :)
