Car Parts, bits For Sale & Wanted / A/C Filler Valve
« on: 14 March 2022, 06:58:11 »
I'm going to ovehaul the A/C on my 3.2 and noticed on a simple gas up that the fill valve is leaking (Spit works wonders!) so decided to get a replacement. From looking in here I am sure the part number is 13277003 but they're all in US/AUS. Any known suppliers of these in UK or anyone on here got a spare one for sale?

Thanks

G

Omega General Help / Re: Fuel pump gaskets
« on: 03 March 2022, 07:42:40 »
Can anyone tell me please, if the gasket under the plate for the fuel pump and the one on the locking piece, can be reused? The wifes Estate Omega smells of petrol. When switched off. She hasn't overfilled it, as I asked. Fuel cap is ok and the seals inside the filler area look OK. I have looked under the inspection plate. The top of the fuel pump plate, with the two outlets is dry. So was going to check underneath the plate, incase the pipes have rotted. (I hope not, only found one replacement, so far and it is stupid money.)

If the pipes are OK is there anywhere else I can look? The smell is definately from the back of the car.

Thanks in advance for any help.
Addy

Found that fuel pump plate on mine - the pipes were corroded, causing fuel smell, although I never seen any, might have been when under pressure it was sweating as there was a stain down tank when you looked underneath (Nothing worse than stains down underneath  :y). See you've checked your pump cover though.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Radio comes on really loud
« on: 01 March 2022, 07:38:39 »
OK, the CD won't have Bose (unless you've retro fitted it).

Given the age of these radios now, the EEPROMS seem to be failing a little.  Sometimes refreshing them helps, sometimes that can end in tears.

I'd be inclined to try to live with it TBH.

I can live with it if it's just one of those things better left alone.

Cheers

CDR2005 is not Bose-able.  Is this in your Elite, or CD ?

Fitting a non Bose HU to a car with a Bose amp will make the volume loud, and each click of the volume makes a large difference in volume.

It's the CD. It's only when I reconnect the battery then press the unlock button to reset the central locking it comes on really loud.

Is it a non Bose radio in a Bose equipped car?

It's the CDR 2005 model, note sure if bose or not.

It can be hard to see it sometimes without stripping out the scuttle, do you have that out?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Radio comes on really loud
« on: 22 February 2022, 08:08:22 »
Hi

Every time I start my 2.6 facelift the radio comes on extremely loud, any ideas why?

Seems to be after I reconnect the battery and start, does this reset the radio to "on" as it is in storage just now and connect up battery to start it up.

Cheers

Omega General Help / Re: Bonnet auxiliary/emergency release mod?
« on: 09 January 2022, 19:00:51 »
Almost certainly pushed back then. How much depends on the original impact.

The fact you have to force the bonnet, however slightly confirms that things are out of whack.

Certainly sounds plausible, given the elite has no issues with bonnet and CD has even after fine adjustments and lubricating everything. Maybe do a couple of measurements between the cars see if anything different.

I bought one of these before Christmas : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234199171649

DeWalt DCF901. If you put it in your 'watch list' and leave it there for a week or two, they will send you a special offer - I think I paid £159 in the end.

For occasonal use it's fine - small and will get into places the larger guns won't. Only 12V, but a 5Ah battery gives it enough grunt for what I want. I only really use it for undoing things - stuff like wheel nuts - which it spins off no trouble at all. Doubt it would do a crank bolt, but then I doubt any of the 250Nm guns would. I don't like doing things up with impact guns - I prefer to know how tight I'm doing them up.

One thing I will say is that performance is much better with good real impact sockets, rather than normal ratchet sockets. Impact sockets are much more rigid, whereas normal sockets are quite 'springy'. The springy-ness absorbs some of the 'impact' and makes them less effective. So budget for a decent set of deep impact sockets too.

I usually use impact sockets as much as I can, especially anything over 13mm that I think is going to be a tight wad to get off, and would definitely use them on a gun. Will have a look at that one, thanks for the recommendation :y

It's always worth checking that the pin and spring on the bonnet are in good condition, clean and lubricated as well as the mechanism on the crossmember :y

Apart from general lubrication, how else can you determine if the spring is ok? I generally give them a bit of oil or spray grease every so often, same with door hinges and catches and anything else that moves/pivots is a hinge.

Check that the spring isn't rusted to the retaining cap or broken, and that there isn't any crap caught in it.

The pin needs to be straight, reasonably clean, greased and burr free where it slots into the latch. They usually screw in or out to provide the bonnet closed height adjustment, so if the car has been damaged at the grill/headlight height that might be necessary.

It only takes minor faults with any of these to make the whole assembly reluctant to release.

Funnily enough there is a roundish dent on the front of the slam panel, just left of the catch area it's been there since I had it so don't know what caused it, and if it's caused any mis-alignment issue. Will give the spring and pin a closer inspection as well see how they look.

I use an older DeWalt one, mainly because it matches the rest of my cordless tools, but also because its small bodied, so can get in tighter spaces.

It's claimed to be something like 185Nm, but tests with my torque wrench put in nearer 150Nm.  Most of the others I've tried that claim 10,000,000Nm achieve about the same, or less.

Obviously, I can't recommend mine as its no longer made, but I'd say you want:

A genuine >150Nm - this may not be enough for everything, so you may have to crack some bolts with a ratchet first, but enough for most.
A small body - to get in tighter areas
A variable trigger - essential for doing stuff back up without cross threading or over tightening.

Most I've seen claim about 250nm, something smaller as you say to get into tighter areas would be handy, but that would compromise on torque, although I'm really just looking for something to run bolts in and out, I prefer tightening most bolts to specified torque, so torque rating not so important, but hopefully the best part of 150nm to remove most nuts and bolts.

Thanks all for suggestions so far.

I was looking at getting an impact gun one of these battery ones, can anyone recommend a good all round one that doesn't cost the earth? Say something around 200-250 with 1/2" drive.

If I had the cash I'd probably buy the milwaukee M18 which has up to 800nm torque but it's pricey, costs anything from 500 upwards.

Thanks

Andy

Grifter - with the trick aren't you rising a cracked light?

It's only the slightest of pressure and has never broke a light. The bonnest doesn't pop up as much as on my elite, so reckon it's just the spring that needs wound downwards a little to help with upward pressure when it releases.
