1918 Spanish flu pandemic killed between 50-100 million.
Perspective. :)
-
Spain has shut it's borders now due to covid 19
so i doubt that Spanish flu will spread much more than it already has in the last 102 years ;D :D
but thanks for the heads up :y

I think much of the 'hysteria' is unwarranted. :)

Not so much hysteria, more people being totally stupid like the idiots in London on the news yesterday evening + 1918 was over 100 years ago so medical knowhow has improved vastly so the death toll would be expected to be less.

1918 was the end of the great war. People were more hardy then, so probably took the extra problem of Spanish flu in their stride.
Life was generally tougher 100 years ago. People were also far less less risk averse than they are now. A snowflake was something that dropped from the sky on a cold day. :)

If you weren't on OOF, Twitter, or Facebook and didn't watch telly or get a newspaper, you might not realise anything strange is going on to be honest. ::)

Except for the lack of stuff in the supermarket.

Yep, you'd just cough yourself to death blissfully un-aware ;D

The UK is getting more obese every year. I'd just assume a lot of fat bastards had gone shopping at the same time.

In the good old days a healthy dose of consumption would see people into the next world. :y

.. and a commute blissfully free of dawdling, excessively risk-averse VW drivers. :y

Apparently China Mobile has lost about 8 million customers since January. :-X
Of course they could have switched to Vodafone or 3 for a better deal, otherwise maybe it's because they just didn't need a phone anymore. ::)

Incidentally 8 million is about 0.55% of China's population of 1.435 billion. :(

I'm surprised Rods never got to that before you. Zero hedge looks like a very reliable news outlet.

;D I didn't say that I believed it to be true, just reported what I'd seen. ;)
I don't think that it's beyond the realms of possibility that the Chinese government have been lying and covering things up all along though. ::)

And the Worldwide death toll of the 2009/10 H1N1 pandemic was in excess of 200,000 possibly as high as 500,000.

Interesting piece of data.
I can't be fearful about it. I either get it or I don't. It either kills me or it doesn't. Either way the world will still turn.

if you have access to Netflix, then this ....https://www.imdb.com/title/tt11244670/ ... on 'The Next Pandemic' is a bit close to the knuckle re COVID-19
though how Bill Gates has an opinion is beyond me :-\

I think that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has done a lot of work in the developing world funding vaccination programs and research into cures for diseases like Malaria and Ebola, so if he's 'hands on' he must have quite a lot of knowledge. :-\
