Title: Taxes
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 28 February 2021, 19:08:07
There's lot's of speculation in the media that Rishi Sunak will hike taxes in next weeks budget.  :(

Yet how extraordinary is it that there are Tories* who are saying taxes must go up and the Labour party are saying that it would harm the recovery to put taxes up?  ???

* Well... Ken Clarke...  ;D

No actual tax rises, as far as I can see.

He's rather between a rock and a hard place. The extra money paid out in furlough payments, vaccine procurement etc has to be found from somewhere although it may not be from direct taxation.

My state pension has been increased by 2.5% from April. I should think so too, poor old pensioners.

We'll come to a point, in the near future, where there will be too many pensioners and too few people of working age to pay for them.

In the old days pensioners had the good manners to either die early or receive the state pension for just a couple of months  before dropping off the perch. :) ::)

With pensioners selfishly living so long these days the looming pension crisis is inevitable. :)

Don't worry Dave. The old boy will take forty winks and by the time he wakes up he'll have forgotten all about oil. :)

As illustrated by the Covid Vax figures. They're saying that 20 Million (not far off one third of the total population) have had their first jab, yet they're only on the 65 and older AFAIK. Ok there are some queue jumpers in that 20 million, but really?

Without doubt

That's part of the reason why back in the 80s I think, that Maggie encouraged and offered financial incentives for people to take out private pensions. At the time I took no interest in such things, but asked an accountant if I should do it. He said "yes" I said "sort it for me". Best thing I ever did.

Certainly can't rely on the State pension to be enough to ensure a comfortable retirement, because I was contracted out I receive approximately £650 per month fortunately I receive 3 other pensions which boost my income substantially + SWMBO has her State & occupational pension, my advice to anyone is plan ahead if you want a worry free retirement. Regarding tax they will have to get it from somewhere after the amount the pandemic has cost, so rises somewhere are inevitable.

Nothing wrong with Vectras , I had a 1.8 vectra B very briefly, gave it to my brother because the boot wasn't big enough for all my junk  :D
I guess they changed it from RFL to VED as the money clearly doesn't fund maintaining roads anymore  >:(

I quite like the Vectra, even though  it has an extra pedal. :D Not a patch on the Omega though.

;D
you don't brake and accelerate at the same time ,so only need one foot for those two  :P
you can however use the clutch and changing gear to slow down and speed up  ;)
the brake pedal is for emergencies , anything else is a waste of petrol  :P
