I am painfully aware of the fact that I can only do a fraction of what I once could. There has been a dramatic decline even within the last five years or so.
Hence I always have a to do list for my cars that never gets cleared. This annoys me greatly, even though its non urgent work.
Top tip: Buy a decent car that doesn't need any work.
I still enjoy it when I find the time/ weather/ energy to do it. When I have to stop I will feel (even more) completely old and useless.
I will then have to settle for a small tedious recycled washing machine.
Thankfully, Im not quite there yet.
Small, tedious, recycled washing machine? Err.....you can buy very decent cars. Ask Opti.
I think you mean you won't part for a 'proper' car, unless it's 20 years old and runs on chip fat.
Once I cant have two cars (one of them very cheap to run) and maintain them myself, then I would imagine Im looking at some shitebox little hatchback thing, with high mpg and low servicing costs.
Even the WVO element will have to go at some point, as lugging 20 L containers of it and lifting them several feet in the air to tip into the filters is something I wont be able to do at some point.
Had a thought provoking moment at work last week when one of the other two guys who do the job had a heart attack when he was there by himself and had to get someone to come and take him to hospital.
He will be out of action for at least a month, so lots of overtime. Every cloud......
