General Car Chat / Dashcam
« on: 10 May 2018, 13:02:15 »
A local electronic firm with a good reputation can fit me one in the Mondeo for about £45. They recommend  Nextbase which do one with a rear facing camera integral. Can anyone recommend these, or alternatives with a similar setup? Apparently a separate camera fitted at the rear can cause loss of the DAB signal. :-\

General Car Chat / Dashcams
« on: 30 April 2018, 16:24:06 »
I would quite like to fit front and rear dashcams to the Mondeo, which already has a reversing camera, and a front one which reads road signs. It would be great if these could be used instead of fitting extra cameras. Has anyone heard of this happening? :-\

General Discussion Area / Mobile signal booster
« on: 28 April 2018, 17:05:43 »
I recently swapped to Plusnet contract for £5.00 per month (EE carrier) but they wont supply a signal booster (No signal indoors unless standing on one leg in the upstairs attic) available only if you are on an EE contract. Tried getting an EE PAYG sim, but EE wont supply  a booster for PAYG either.
Will this box work OK?

Or is it just a case of 'yer pays yer money etc'.? :-\

Omega General Help / Misfire
« on: 27 April 2018, 12:06:29 »
Had a misfire a low revs yesterday. Pedal trick today gives me 0300 - random misfire, and 0304 - misfire #4.
Removed the coil pack and sure enough, there is water in the wells, and the pack has cracks. Has anyone got a part number for the 2-4-6 pack please?

« on: 19 April 2018, 22:44:11 »
Just had my renewal notice for the the 3.2 and the Mondeo, up from £471 last year to £578 this year! Spent a little time comparing and have now got it for £479 less £66 cashback.
Happy days. :y

General Discussion Area / Tumble drier failure
« on: 02 April 2018, 15:51:43 »
I shouldn't grumble, we must have had it 15 -20 years, but our Creda has just packed up. Model is Simplicity T620CW. It is, as it says on the tin, Simplicity to operate.
Symptoms are:
When On/Off push button selected On, with timer selected to anywhere but zero, (ie motor should run), the starter relay operates with no rotation of drum, and the main cct breaker in the house consumer unit trips.
When On/Off push button selected On, with timer at zero, (ie no demand to rotate) the starter relay operates but does not trip the house cct breaker. I have checked the supply lead for shorts which is OK.
Any electrickery experts with any ideas? I'm thinking possibly a short in the motor. :-\ :-\ :-\

General Car Chat / Where can I get...
« on: 24 March 2018, 19:21:59 »
5w-20 or 5w-30 at a reasonable price, other than Halfords on TC (which I have)? Even with TC it is going to be pricey from them. :-\ :-\ :-\

General Discussion Area / Viessmann Boiler pcb failure
« on: 19 March 2018, 20:00:33 »
Typical, boiler failed to start yesterday AM, on of the coldest days of the year! Unfortunately no fault codes, just no flame indicator. Last fault code from a previous temporary failure a while ago suggested a faulty ignition electrode, so changed that today with no luck. Very helpful guy at Viessmann talked me through the trouble shooting - the manual is 'somewhat tricky' to follow - to deduce it is the pcb, (at £360 and change) >:( However it is 9 years old, and he said that changing both electrodes was sensible at that age anyway. Bloody annoying as it is almost certainly one small twopenny item that's failed on the board, which is impossible for me to test. New board arrives tomorrow on overnight delivery.
Mrs S not pleased at having to rely on fan heaters and a gas fire.

General Discussion Area / Islay Malt
« on: 07 March 2018, 20:37:57 »
For any Islay malt drinkers, Lidl have Ben Bracken at under £18, just trying my first dram, it is one of the peatier ones, probably from one of the southern distilleries, I love it. :y

General Discussion Area / Newspaper headline.
« on: 05 March 2018, 19:33:48 »
I did like the headline from one of the newspapers last week, I think it was probably the Sun, referring to the Max Mosley case.

"The liar, the 'swish', and the whore probe."

Very clever. ;D ;D ;D

General Discussion Area / Plusnet mobile
« on: 09 February 2018, 16:52:31 »
I get a lousy signal at home, 1 or 0 bars, plusnet do not support wifi calling, or supply a booster, although the EE carrier does if signed up with them. Any ideas how to boost my signal? On iPhone5s

General Discussion Area / Mechanical offspring
« on: 29 January 2018, 19:01:21 »
After reading Terry's post about his Grandson declaring that 'Grandpa would mend it.' I got to wondering, how many of you have offspring that turn their hand to car repairs or DIY generally? My son is very good with cars and DIY.  :y Daughter is capable but earns too much so pays others. :(
