Yeah thanks again :) By the way here Finland usually (except import cars) only the post office vans are right hand drives, Iīve actually driven few to garage lifter for tyre change at my daily job ;D

I havenīt done much for this car recently, but... Iīve got lots of bits for it. New subframe bushes and semi-trailing arm bushes (orignal GM), new ARB bushes (FAG) and Mintex brake pad installation kit with pins and rattle springs, previous owner had lost them and had to fabricate temporately those from stainless steel sheet. Also I bought OEM upper water hose, cause there is a coolant leak left top of the radiator and looks like (?) itīs the hose.

Omega General Help / Re: Timing belt kit question
« on: 05 March 2024, 09:30:22 »
Hi, I accidently managed to do cambelt on my daily (Z22XE) without that locking tool, I ordered one but it was wrong sort of and wasnīt made for this engine. The timing on that 4 cylinder engine is quite straight forward, compared for example Fords Zetec SE engines at the same time period, which takes many hours longer to do. Only thing where you can get it wrong is the adjustment of tensioner pulley and water pump positioning, so itīs wise to proceed with instructions from servie manual or TIS, I printed instructions from finnish service called Autodata.

In these pics the markings of camshafts and crankshaft can be seen. Just got those alligned, cambelt off, then install new water pump in the way that old one was installed, add new belt, tensioner and idler pulleys, turn the tensioner counter clockwise until the pointer is on the right edge, tighten tensioner bolt, then two revolutions from the crankshaft, check aliignment(!), loosen the tensioner bolt a little and turn it clockwise until the pointer is towards "NEW", tighten it on correct torque. Again two revolutions from the crank and check that all marks do allign, just in case. There is a little notch/dent on the block where to set tensioner "claw" otherwise it canīt be put wrong position.

V6 is much more painful to get right, especially the final adjustment of those tensioners >:(

This will be a long opening post... but in fall 2021 I bought one of my dream cars:

Facelift saloon Omega with 3.0 litre V6 (X30XE), automatic gearbox and open diff. "They say you should never meet your heroes"- sentence kinda started to make sense, eventhough this was one the cheapest on the market, and mayde thatīs why it came with many faults:

-cambelt hasnīt been done for over 8 years, also the milage window was full
-cam covers were leaking oil
-minor issues with tempratures
-propshaft was wibrating
-handbrake didnīt feel right
-rear brake discs were gone
-brake lines were rusty
-dodgy repairs on the reardoors, also passengers side front had some corrosion
-and some other minor issues

Summer 2022:

Did the timing belt, water pump, auxilary belt&tensioner.

New thermostat and o-rings to water rail sorted out the heat issues 8)

Installed a second-hand-prop shaft.

Added new hand brake cable. After adjusting brake shoes, feeling and bite was spot on  :y

Then I had move on the repair my daily driver, and I left this one to garage, yet Iīll had to sort out oil leaks, also managed to spun oil filter housing while changing new filter, which meant one oil leak more. Brakes were undone as well.

Spring 2023 I made VLog from oil leaks and solutions that I came up with:

Starting point:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amvIT1OBWx0

Cock-up:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nnd6VSu320s

Oil filter conversion:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ce5yOMPAcnY

Alloy cam covers:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EH20jkGqvJc

Result:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kh35Rqi9JI

Then it was time to fix those brakes:

New lines and hoses all round.

Rear calipers done, starting point didnīt look too good ;D

Also front calipers rebuilt, brackets cleaned and painted.

For budget reasons I used old discs (which werenīt actuacllu that bad) and add only new pads. In some point I will buy more high quality discs and pads.

The radiator draining plug was leaking, with short search on eBay, I found new one:

So this was an easy fix 8)

Before MoT I wanted fix exterior a bit, and here is a VLog which reveals most of work:

And here is happy owner talking ;D  :

Rest of the summer I just kept on driving and enjoying. Despite having open diff, this is after all an Omega which means it does still go sideways, as long as you donīt lift an inch, outer wheel keeps spinning, cause if you do it bites and you en up having that inside wheel spin or "one tire fire" ::)

The after market rims are quite.. horrible and for that reason I gotse of these:

I will get new tyres during on this spring.

Future plans for the car is to keep on restoring it, fix the underside, take the rear beam off and add new bushes, also new bushes to front as well. And propably I will replace orignal diff with an LSD.

If I had time, I would like to convert this to manual, I already have a C25XE flywheel, but I havenīt bought other bits yet.

Yeah, there are definately lots of options with better stance to Omega, I actually got a set 17x7,5" original Sport edition- wheels, but they are going to my V6 Omega ;) Eventhough the looks isnīt that good with those current 16" wheels, they are more suitable for everyday use in terms of tire costs (205/55R16 are pretty cheap aroud here) and also driving wise, enough comfort and not too grippy when having a little fun ;D  This gets driven a lot and I have change oils two times per year. Also there is less than 10 000km left of cambelt life, and propably next summer I have to change that as well.

Thanks!

Those GT Radial studded tyres are actually quite good on snow and on ice, even they arenīt that expensive or as well known brand such as Michelin for example.

Here is little vid form November as the tyres were pretty fresh:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X5cUoAy8QI

On icy road car is still quite chuckable and predictable :)

Talking about offset; the black ones had ET39 but they are only 6,5" wide and are too much "inside", alloys for the summer had ET39 and they are 7" wide, propably using spacers (5mm?) would give better look.

Thanks for your feedback guys! :)

I realized that there was no pictures or info from my wheels and tyres, but... originally had two sets of summer wheels for this, ones that are seen in earlier post came with car, and usually after summer they lookes likes this:

This is from 2021 ::)  I got cheap Triangle tyres, so I installed those and balanced the wheels.

Before this winter situation was almost the same:

At least I got used to aqua planing ;D

In november I started think which rims I would be putting on winter, so I came up solution to use former summer rims:

That leaves question for the summer right? And actually I found 100-edition 16" alloys, with few scarches:

I decided to refurbish them and give a new colour at the same ;)

I used 2k epoxy for primer.

And beige water base (Mercedes Benz, sand dune beige) and 2k clearcoat.

I got Nang Kang tyres some point but there was issues on threir strucktures/side walls, that reason I fitted Ovation tyres for the next summer:

There is the whole set waiting for me and summer 2024 8)

I decided to make separate topic from this one, propably making another from my V6 later on... ;)

I bought this five years ago:

Its 2001 model facelift/B2 Omega 2.2 litre petrol engine, with manual gearbox and 40% LSD. Also this has air conditioning ;D  Car had more than few issues... Cam cover was leaking, thorttle body was in oil (breather setup/one the hoses was blocked), brake pedal feel was horrible, handbrake wasnīt ok, exhaust manifold was leaking and two studs had been snapped, rear wheel arch needed to replaced , driver side sill needed to also replaced and couple original bits were missing/wrong.

First years I was mainly doing repairs to engine and brakes:

I drilled out snapped studs from the head and got manifold skimmed straight.

I changed cambelt etc.

I fixed oil breather system, by drilling hole in the throttle body from 1mm to 2mm and adding new hoses. Also new gasket to cam cover, yes o-rings as well and I found that missing Ecotec-plastic over cam cover.

I got calipers rebuilt with new pistons and seals, new brake hoses, discs and pads. I also changed new handbrake cable.

In summer 2022 I did the biggest fixes for exterior:

There is also a VLog about that on my channel:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cA0rIWSTNKc

(unfortunately my english isnīt that good :-\  )

After I got car back on road and was almost ready for MoT, I get caught from drifting and lost my driving licence for almost two months  :'(

Eventually I got the car to MoT, and just drive it through winter, after all this is my daily driver.

Last but not least, I took rear beam out for overhaul, meaning new bushes and quick service to LSD ;D

Whole beam was rebuilt and installed back to car, after then I took it for suspension geometry allignment and boy it was great to drive again! :y

As you may have noticed Iīm going D-I-Y-principal and the only thing that wasnīt done by me was the allignment.

Propably I forgot mention something cause there are so many things Iīve done to this, but thatīs mostly all by this far.

The silver one (Star silver 2) is my daily driver, itīs 2.2 litre (Z22XE) manual with LSD and the dark grey (Moonland) is 3.0 litre V6 (X30XE) automatic. I,ve done lot of work with both cars, welding, prepwork, painting, servicing engine etc.
