Omega General Help / V6 plenum differences.
« on: 02 May 2009, 19:32:05 »
Hi all this is probably a numpty question but. I was under the impression the plenum chambers between the 2.5 and 3.0lt differed with the 3.0lt having a much longer "snout" to the butterflies. Did the real early 3.0lts have the short snout like the 2.5's or should all of them have the long "snout"

As the titles  says. I've just done the cam gasket cleaned breather and fitted new dis pack. I'm still noticing it drops on to 5 cylinders from time to time but I put this down to the state of the leads. The rubber at the plug end is completly rotten due to being submerged in oil for so long. I was wondering if this would cause the hunting issue? At normal idle with a/c off the car is fine but when you turn the a/c on and the engine goes to pick the revs up the engines starts to hunt. I disconnected the idle speed control valve and the engine dropped to a lower idle but continued to hunt until the a/c is off. I notice a little clonk from the area of the a/c compressor when it's hunting. Now this could all be down to naff leads (plugs are new) but has anybody had this issue before or heard of the issue before? The aircon appears to be working as one pipe is hot and the other cold but I can't tell from the car as the heater bypass valve has no vaccum to it at the moment and I think this is causing the heating to go funny being always just warm. Also the pulley on the a/c comp is spinning when it's turned on.

Omega General Help / Lets talk oil breathers
« on: 22 May 2008, 01:39:36 »
This may of been discussed before but I new here so apologies if I'm going over old ground. We all know the V6 has a tendency to block it's oil breathers and then pop the cam cover gaskets. If you try and improve the cam covers it apparently will try to come out some where else I think the rear crank seal is a favorite. My question is what would happen if you were to add another breather? I'm not thinking to hi tech you could add a simple breather to the cam covers and plumb it into the plenum chamber. I've been involved when I was a wee lad doing this before on a midget 1800 and later on a pug 309 1.9 gti (we use to rally) with no adverse effects but is there such a thing as having to much breather capacity. I'm really thinking out loud at the mo. A well maintained breather does the job it's just a PITA when it does block and you end up removing the plenum etc when you may be able to prevent it with a easy mod.

Hi all it's me again. Still finding my way around the mig and I am enjoying it. Now all my experience has been with the vx straight 6 lump so I know the benefits of the dual ram system. I really like my gsi 3000 for it's kick at 4k rpm. As some you know I brought quite a cheap mig and it has a few niggerling faults and I'm working my way through them. I've had a couple of issues with the vac system on the car. One was the vac reservoir which was buggered I currently have a gsi one fitted which seems to be doing a Stirling job until my new mig vac turns up. I also found another pipe dis-connected which goes through the grommet which has the two heater pipes fitted. I've had to make a new hole in the grommet and connect the line in the car so now I have a working vac system. Compared to straight six dual ram system the mig looks a lot more complicated. SO a couple of questions for everybody. What do the 2 lines going through he bulk head do? I'm guessing something todo with the havac. There are 2 dual ram vales fitted. The one at the front I have seen move by revving the engine however I know this isn't a true reading of vac as at wide throttle openings if the reservoir is kaput you will lose vacuum. What does the other valve do at the back of the plenum? I see the vac also controls a valve to do with the auxiliary cooling pump and I'm guessing it also has a connection HBV. Is there anything else it plumbs into? I might as well make a full search of the system to make sure it's all OK. Look forward to all your answers

Omega General Help / Airbag warning light on
« on: 13 May 2008, 19:50:01 »
Ok If I've caused this myself then feel free to slap me with a wet kipper

I had a problem with the stereo in my car the front os door speaker didn't work. So I removed the trim today and started working back towards the stereo following the wires until I found the fault. So I undid the wiring loom at the door pillar and checked the speaker wires from the door to the speakers found them ok. Then I was asked to move the car so with the door wiring disconnect I started it up and moved it. I followed on with fixing the speaker problem I found the problem lied with the multiplug on the back of the stereo. For some reason theres the plug to the stereo and a little further up another plug. The fault was here so I disconnected it and using the ISO socket on my aftermarket stereo plug it straight into this plug. BINGO!! stereo works fine. SO I put car back together started it up and now I have the airbag warning light on  >:( >:( Now I guess I've dislodged something or by unplugging the door and turning the ignition on had one of the sensors unplugged. I did notice a blue control unit in the door but thought it might be something to do with the remote CL . I know I have to get this reset at a garage well I've just ordered some new software and now hope  when it turns up I can reset it myself. Is there any sensors in the dash by the stereo for tha airbag? am I right in now thinking the blue sensor in the door is for the seat airbags

I await my pounding with kippers please no frozen ones  :-[ :-[ :-[

Omega General Help / 99 Headlight lens
« on: 10 May 2008, 23:02:42 »
One of my headlights has a scrape on the plastic lens. I've noticed it just clips on. Does that mean you can buy just the lens without having to fork out for a whole new light unit?

Newbie Welcome Area / Howdy all
« on: 04 May 2008, 23:17:07 »
Newbie here. I'm gonna be after lots of advice from you lot about buying a Omega. I'm a Carlton man you see more to the point the 6 Cly. variety. I currently have a 2.6 Dip auto, GSi 3000 manual and I'm also very privileged to own my dream a Lotus Carlton. You can normally find me mu-chin around Total Carlton or The Autobahn stormers. At the mo I have a really wonky ankle which means I can't drive the manuals (sniff sniff) and I really like my creature comforts especially air con. Which leads me to a little problem with my only car I can drive the 2.6 The a/c comp. has lunched it. To replace will probably cost as much as the car is worth. SO I'm gonna look for a Omega with working a/c etc for around the 700 quid mark. Not knowing anything about these beasties can you give me pointers and known problems I should look out for?

Speak to you all soon
