Omega General Help / Advice wanted on sale of car/wheels.
« on: 12 December 2013, 11:47:41 »
Hi folks, I have a question to ask and in need of advice.

I'm looking to sell my Omega Estate in the new year (I want to downsize), the question is this, I put a set of refurbised 17" Elite alloys on it and still have the 16" GLS wheels which I'm trying to sell separately (They were also refurbished and are like new).

Do I keep the Elite wheels on the car when I offer it for sale and keep the 16'' wheels up for sale separately, or swap the wheels back and sell the 17" Elite wheels separately as they may sell easier than the smaller size? How much difference does the size/style of a wheel make to the sale of a car to you guys?

N.b. I'm a regular on this forum but do not have enough posts to sell so I can't advertise on here, I'm not trying to sneak a sale through this post and don't want to break protocol, I'm just after the advice.

Many thanks.

Mark.

General Car Chat / Just a nod was acknowledgement enough...
« on: 09 February 2013, 14:22:03 »
This morning I was driving into town in my Omega Estate, I came to a halt as the traffic was backing up at the the lights when coming in the other direction was a guy in another estate.

He had to slow down as traffic was backing up in front of him too, we both came to rest opposite each other, face to face we nodded to each other, looked each other's motors up and down, then the traffic was on the move so we drove away.

It was great, I didn't know this guy from Adam, but it was a nice little acknowlegement and a showing of mutual respect for these cars. I've never had that from any of the other cars I've owned (with the exception of my first car-a Mini) and I've no doubt that if we'd stop anywhere (fuel top up, newsagents etc...) we'd have had a chat about our motors.

Maybe because there's not too many of these cars on the roads anymore, or we're a selective few who still drive them, either way it seems us Omega drivers have got to stick together  :y

Anyone else experienced this?

General Car Chat / Autoglym Aqua Wax
« on: 01 January 2013, 18:18:49 »
Hi guys.

Firstly Happy new year to you all.  :y

Gave the Meega its first wash of the year today. Used Autoglym Shampoo to wash, then tried this...

Got it for Christmas, absolutley amazing!!

Always like to wash the car more often around this time of the year but I've been struggling to wax and protect it as after I've washed it's either rained before I get chance to wax or it's been too cold to apply and the wax just streaks.

This stuff is fantastic, you just wash the car and rinse, then whilst the car is still wet you spray this stuff on and wipe it dry (along with the water) with one of the Microfibres, then go over again/buff with the other dry Microfibre. No streaks, you can go over everything as well (paintwork, rubber, glass), it's left the car looking like new and done in half the time due to drying and waxing in one go.

No photos as it was dark when I finished, but honestly it's left the car feeling like glass, just looked out at it now (surprise surprise it's raining) but it's beading like a good 'un!!

About £13 for the kit but definitely worth it, I've tried all the top waxes (Poorboys, Chemical Guys, Meguiars and of course AG) but I'll stick to this product, cuts down the time and effort of waxing, plus it smells bloody lovely!!!

Thought I'd share with you guys/gals, interested if anyone else has tried this or any other stuff anyone else uses though.  ;) Cheers.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Fog light compatability...
« on: 22 November 2012, 21:21:47 »
Hi guys & gals.

I've just bought a secondhand front bumper to replace the one I have on the car at the moment as it's got some pretty deep scuffs on each corner and at the bottom of it that the previous owner kindly left there for me, so the plan is to prep it, get it painted and do a straight swap; the thing is my motor is a GLS (no washer jets or fog lights) and the new bumper is off a 2.6 elite so has washer jets (not a problem as I'll have them 'for show') and fog lights.

My question is, does anyone know if my GLS will have a wiring loom and the connections at the bumper end for me to plug the fogs into, then at the button end replace the blanking plate (next to the rear fogs button) with a button to operate the front fogs?

I know that Vauxhall sometimes fitted the loom but not the buttons to the level entry models and simply did what I plan to do for the higher spec models....or is it not that simple  ::)

If the above is not possible I will make up a wiring circuit with a switch and relay/fuses as I'd like the fogs to work and not just be there for show.

Thanks in advance.  :y

Omega Gallery / My new purchase, 2.2 GLS Estate.
« on: 12 November 2012, 18:39:54 »
*More of a detailing thread, but here goes*

Picked up my new daily driver on Saturday, A 2.2 Omega GLS estate on an X plate.

Drove it up from Birmingham (to Derby) and it drove beautifully, (I have some querys on the car which I will post in the relevant topic sections) but apart from that I'm happy with the car.

The car was relatively clean when I picked it up, but not to the standard I like to keep, so work commenced on bringing it up to scratch with a little detailing and deep cleaning.

First on the agenda was to simply wash the car outside before I moved it into the garage for the real work to start.  :)

Ready to start.

Washed and dried...

And parked in the garage:

Engine bay, reasonably clean....but could be better.

So after some detailing it looked like this...

Before:

After:

Time to get out the clay bar to freshen up the paintwork.

The roof goes on forever!!!! It would be easier if I were 7ft tall....but I'm not so I'll stand on the door sill... ;D

Coming up a treat:

A few years' worth of contamination there then...

cleaning all those nooks and crannies....and door handles!

Nasty tidemark under rear qtr screen rubber...

...gone.

Moved onto the interior: - Drivers' footwell.

And Drivers' seat:

Cleaned:

Rear of drivers' seat:

Onto the dashboard/radio with a dry paintbrush....

Centre console/transmission....

Lookng better (passenger side yet to be done).

I wanted to modify the door trim so I got some vinyl from a friend in the signmaking trade, heated it up to activate the glue and help make it supple so I could form it around the shape of the trim...

Sharp scalpal to cut the vinyl...

Another blast of heat for good measure...

...and et voila.

Rear door done too  :y

That's all for now folks, will update as I progress further with the work.  :)

Omega Gallery / Not strictly an Omega.....
« on: 08 November 2012, 11:33:42 »
...but its predecessor (if you take the Senator out of the equation  ;))

I've yet to post photo's of my Omega as I've not yet picked it up from the dealer, so I thought I'd add to the gallery my 1989 Carlton Gsi3000 which I finished restoring earlier this year.

I know it's a bit cheeky posting a non-Omega model in an Omega Gallery, but what the heck...

I took me 4 years to complete, although I started the restoration in 2003 I moved house in 2006 and took a break from it for 6 years (!!) and got back on it last year, so here she is...

Some photo's taken this year (on one of the few days that it wasn't actually raining!!)

Alongside my friend's white Gsi3000

Shots of car at the ONLY show I managed to go to this year due to the appalling weather, (Himley Hall, Nr Dudley WM).

Gratuitous shots of the underneath taken on the ramps at the MOT test centre.

Thanks for looking. If you'd like to see the full restoration photos of this project, and would like to see the horrors that I discovered along the way there's a thread link to the VODC here: http://www.vodc.co.uk/showthread.php?t=20623

Newbie Welcome Area / Newbie, from Derby.
« on: 02 November 2012, 15:15:28 »
Hi folks.

Just registered here as I've just purchased a 2.2GLS 2000 (x) Omega Estate for my daily drive.

At the moment I drive a 520i Beemer but will be selling this once I pick up the Estate.

Joined the forum for advice, and to have chats with like minded owners. Some of you may know me from the VODC or Total Carlton as this year I completed the restoration of my Gsi3000.

Anyway, photos of the Omega I will be getting (and some cheeky shots of my Gsi)

Omega: Bought for just under £1000, the usual rust spots you'd get on a 12 year old car (tiny bubbling around the rear wheel arch, bottom of rear door and under the seal of the rear screen where the wiper is). 92k on the clock, tidy inside and engine runs sweet. Auto, which pulled nice when test driven, oh, and brand new Continentals all round (£500 worth, so technically the rest of the car cost me £500  :y)

Will be giving it the full detailing treatment when I get it and sort out any bodywork defects.

My Carlton Gsi.

Cheers. Mark.
