Could it be a dodgy switch or loose battery post?  Try a PM to Martin Imber

I've only owned my Omega for about 8 years so not really au fait under the bonnet  ;D ;D ;D & I'll have to confess my ingorance  ??? what are they?  :-[ :-[

And your exhaust studs are infact long grub screws - hence the hex allen key end  ;)

Never been too sure about this myself but I think it might be an engine.   ;D

Omega General Help / Re: Door rubbing strips-fixing?
« on: 24 December 2011, 11:33:31 »
If memory serves, facelift has different fixings from pre-facelift.  Which do you have?

If you have a small screw pointing long-ways into the very end of the trim, you undo that screw which allows you to slide the whole trim along half an inch to release it from its clips.  This is he facelift method, I believe.

Somebody will be along shortly with better detail.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: aerial/hrw
« on: 23 December 2011, 13:42:08 »
Had a a similar problem on the Carlton many years ago, turned out to be the aerial connection at the back of the radio.  But only after I had replaced the aerial amplifier and found it made no difference.  So if you need a 90378750 aerial amplifier, you're welcome to my spare  :y

Have a look in the Maintenance Guide Index in the Maintenance Guides section.  You'll find a guide listed in the "External" section.   :y

General Discussion Area / Re: Central heating buggered....
« on: 16 December 2011, 01:02:41 »
Doesn't sound like PCB to me - the PCB doesn't know or care whether it is being called for heating or for hot water.   Could well be the motorised valve on the central heating side jammed part way open.

The way it should work is the timer and room stat provide power to open the valve.  When the valve is fully open it hits an internal micro-switch which in turn feeds power ("call") to the boiler requesting it to fire up.  If the valve never opens fully, there will be no signal to the boiler to turn on.  But when the boiler fires up for hot water, there will be accidental flow through the partially open CH valve.

You can test this theory by locating your central heating motorised valve and operating it manually using the skinny metal lever sticking out of the base of the valve head.  The motorised valves will be somewhere near the main wiring box, and look like one of these

It is frequently the motor part of the unit that fails rather than the actual valve, in which case you can swap in a replacement motor unit without touching the actual plumbing, assuming you are electrically competent.  Otherwise it will be a drain down to fit a complete new valve.

This assumes you have a separate two-port valve for CH and DHW ("S-plan").

General Discussion Area / Re: which sat nav?
« on: 14 December 2011, 16:13:49 »
Screwfix are currently knocking an extra £30 off this one at the checkout, bringing it down to under £80 if you want a good basic model:

No lane pictures, no traffic awareness, just basic navigation but I find Garmin are OK.

Omega General Help / Re: Headlight/ tail light warning

I had a similar sounding problem - cured by replacing Halfords stop/tail bulbs with genuine Vauxhall ones.  Around 70p each IIRC, not overly expensive!

General Car Chat / Re: Leather or Cloth
« on: 20 November 2011, 22:50:03 »
Cloth MV6 is, I would have to concede, the most comfortable standard Omega seat.  But they soon start to look as if you have been using them for uphill gardening with cats.  I go for leather every time - looks better, feels better and, being puke-on wipe-off, lasts better.  Brought up my kids on leather Carlton seats with no worries at all about where the chocolate ice cream was going.

Use Gliptone cleaner and they also smell better.  :y

Shame about the plastic wood, though.  :(

Anyway is English she or it? I'm always in trouble when I have to use personal pronouns... :-\
English as she is spoke.

English is "she" when we are feeling warm towards her.  English is "it" when it's being a PITA.

American comes ready assaulted so is always "it".  ;D

Snow chain set* available in 4 sizes (70, 80, 90 or 100...see product-packs for precise suitability)....pack incl. 1 pair of galv. alloy steel chains, a case, 4 repair links and a pair of gloves.

Any idea what the sizes mean?  I know, see product-packs for precise suitability, but curious to know if any of them will fit before making an early morning trip to Pidl.

General Discussion Area / £1,500 for driving 30 miles anybody?
« on: 17 November 2011, 22:23:10 »
Petrol in my neck of the woods is 5p more than it is 30 miles around the M25 - it always is, has been for years.  I'm told that a fuel tanker typically carries 30,000 litres.  At 5p per litre extra following the trip, that's about £1,500 extra "for going".

I wonder if they pay this to the driver?   ::)

OK, a good chunk of it obviously goes to the government in taxes but, given that the fuel companies are fair minded and public spirited, can anybody think of any possible reason for this apparently easy money?

Ah - interesting.  In that case, apologies to whoever I misled the other day about dropping two gears.  :-[

Thanks to all for the friendly welcome
The other responses for general help were reasoned and helpful
I have always been fond of natives of the English Isles as I am a descendant and well,
you just seem to have that joy of life that the French cannot touch and we Yanks
seem too busy and stressed to appreciate.
 Hale Britania and

I'm sure it was just a temporary slip - normal service will be resumed as soon as possible  ;)

Welcome along, by the way!  :y
