Yes I've been pondering switching to a petrol car not only because of the price difference, but also there's been suggestions of diesel shortages as we don't refine enough in this country so import about half of what we need.  Guess where we import diesel from?  ???  ::)

The problem is that the only petrol cars I like the look of do about 20 gallons to the mile!  ;D

I know what you mean. The 'over optimistic' trip computer fitted to my classic Vauxhall is currently showing 24 MPG (about 21-22 MPG in reality)

The figures for the Tata were much the same despite having an extra 320 BHP. :-X

I wouldn't mind a Volvo V70 T6, but I was crunching some numbers the other day and I reckon it would cost 10p a mile more to run than my current V70 D5, plus the addition VED.  :-\

A quick google shows 300 BHP so it should be entertaining in a straight line.

Buy one.......we are all a long time dead. :y

Our two vehicles do exactly the same 23 around town & 30 on a run fortunately only around 8,000 miles is our average now we've retired 3,000 in the Subaru (petrol) & around 5,000 in the RRS which is diesel.

This is true!  :)

I need a big load lugger and was considering a Range Rover 3.6 TDV8 which has a similar fuel consumption to the V70 T6 but with diesel, so comparatively the V70 T6 is cheap to run!  :y

It's all relative really.   :)

Omega - 24mpg
Boxster - 28mpg
Pierre - 60mpg.

Diesel still makes sense for me while Im still working, which I plan to do for another seven years or so if possible.

Price of diesel here is irrelevant. You just can't get any.

I hear on arsebook that the next town, 15 miles away, has limited quantities at some stations...   ...I have just about enough left to get there and back, so daren't risk it ;D

No problems here at present but I don't let either vehicle go below half before refuelling.

I had a van over the weekend and had to visit 4 petrol stations (and pay £1.90 /l) to get any to fill it back up.  :-\

I once had a test drive of an early 2.5 litre Boxster. It sounded great and was a proper drivers car. I think later cars were bored out to 2.7/3.0/3.2.

Very basic though....no AC if memory serves.
