My newest is 2007, oldest, 1992.

They report a record high, but I'd have liked to have seen the previous figures to give this article more context.

Thank you.

Scrap the traffic light system and replace it with something more relatable......
3 levels....

Pub open a bit
Pub closed.

Very easy to understand.

As I said above, to me, it doesn't change or affect the story being told, so it doesn't bother me.

The thing is, the wokeness annoys me too.

A black lady playing a white lady doesn't. Now if said lady only got the job because of her skin colour, then I agree with you, it's wrong, but if she gave the best audition and won the part fairly, then she deserves it.

Let me put it another way, not many dead people tell their story.

I didn't think I'd need to get the crayons out.

Actors are called actors because they are capable of acting like other people.

You are also confusing history with a story. Do you think the history we know is how it happened? No, not for a second, history is only written by the winners and then it will be bias towards them. Is it a history programme? Is it a documentary? Or is it someone's interpretation of events?

To me, it doesn't affect the story unless you are getting hung up on the fact it's a black actoress and ignoring the story. Which if true, says more about you than it does the story or cast.

But then we are back to actors only allowed to play the roles if they are like the person they portraying.

As an example, the madness of king George. By your reasoning, this could only be played by an actor who is barking mad. What next Wolverine needs to be actual wolf machine hybrid actor?

Whites are accused of cultural appropriation for wearing dreadlocks, but a black Anne Boleyn is ok, apparently.  ::)

Don't worry chaps. Swings and roundabouts. :)

I look forward to seeing a 'white Ali' .......white 'Nelson Mandela' and a white ' Malcolm X' in the near future. ::) ::)

.......except I won't live to see it. It's a one-way (woke) street. :-\

I partially disagree here. To me, it doesn't matter if they cast a black person to play Anne Boleyn, the colour of the actor doesn't affect the story being told as race is not part of that story.

Now if you cast a white person to MLK, that would be wrong, because his story is all about race and repression. The only way you could tell this story with a white MLK, would be to swap the roles of the black and white people, but then the story wouldn't be the same and the point is overshadowed by casting choice.

Just my opinion.

I've no time for the BBC. The license needs to be scrapped and they need to get adverts. Oh so you mean like the adverts you get in BBC content on You Tube? Yes, exactly that.

There argument of 'we wouldn't make the programmes we make if we went commercial.' is flawed. In which case, you're obviously out of touch if you think you are winning viewers making shows for the minority, You Tube, tiktoc etc already offer videos for every niche you can think of.

Also, we could get rid of an entire government department, which on its own, is a great idea.

I only have a TV license because my son occasionally watches BBC content. The wife isn't bothered and neither of us watches live TV anymore.

If I lived on my own, I could legally watch live TV without a TV license, as there is a loophole, which I don't think has been closed that means I'm already licensed with a free license. Although I'm not sure I'd want to test I in court. I'd be the one they wanted to make an example of.

Omega General Help / Re: General advice on purchase
« on: 20 May 2021, 21:09:01 »
Hello and welcome to the site.

As with all old cars, rust tends to be the killer. I've always thought the 2.0 was a bit small for a car as big as the Omega, even if it's the 16v x20xev engine. On that basis I'd want to drive it first.

If it is the 16v, it was about £45-50 for the belt kit. About another 30 for the water pump and about 2 hours labour. But it's been a few years since a ventured near a 2.0.

As mentioned above, because of the age, expect to spend some money replacing the usual items, suspension, bushes, gaskets etc; also because the age, I'd check the date stamp on the tyres, they might have lots of tread, but if they are 10 years, they aren't much good.

Overall, like any car, stay on top of rust and maintenance and it should last forever.

What I don't get is, there are complaints if a white actor plays a black roll or an able bodied actor plays a disabled part. Ok, going further with that, what if your TV show includes a murderer, can that roll only be played by a convicted murderer? Or a rape etc;

Would you like to know a pretty much worse case scenario for not changing your plugs? Well you are in luck.

As the plug wears, the gap gets bigger. This in turn requires more energy to get that spark to jump. Carrying on up the chain, the coil pack is now taking a battering. It's not long of this world. But wait, there's more. Not to be outdone, the ECU decides it wants to play, with a dodgy coil pack output.

I know it sounds so unbelievable, it would never happen! Would it? Yes and I experienced it first hand, granted I bought the car with a misfire and also, it was a Fiat, so not the best electrics to start with. My naivety thought there would be done sort of protection on there. Apparently not.

Oh and to stop people playing, the ECU board was bathed in resin. Luckily a replacement, decoded ECU was very cheap!

I have used and quite liked the iridium plugs.

Although they can be expensive, (you need to shop around) they are supposed to be good for 50k. But I've never left them in that long, as the porcelain was showing flare marks.
