Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Pick up 12 volt under dash
« on: 10 April 2021, 21:01:49 »
I'm going to add a power outlet at the back of the center console, mainly for connecting a 12 V cooler for long travels. It will need at least 15Amps. I have already an USB outlet for phone charging connected to the wires for the 12V cig outlet.

I'm thinking of picking up a connection under the dash for this power outlet. Either one that is on by ignition or controlled by the same relay that controls the power to the inner lights and cig outlets. I will use a relay for the power 12 to the outlet.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Below is the panel with the outlets I'm going to mount. I added an image but it doesn't show up.

Omega General Help / Re: Multiple faults on my 3.2 omega? Help!

Easily.
Pull it back out, clean and inspect it for damage, cracks etc.
While you're waiting for the new one to arrive, take the scuttle off, remove the foam, and ensure when the scuttle goes back on that any leaks can't run onto the engine

On one of mine the scuttle had a hole in the gasket to the hood. That led to water pouring straight down on the coil pack and shortening one of the plugs.

There is 15 different springs for the Omega, including the ones for the Omega Hearse.

Are they not the same as the ones in, say, an astra?

And in SAAB's too

The Facelifts have some relays upp under the dash, up behind the fuse panel. It's hard to see them without laying on the floor and looking up there.

I have changed one of them, it was the one that controls the interior lighting. Seems to not be uncommon that it breaks. That one is a light yellow colored larger model.

Omega General Help / Re: Buzzing from passenger door.
« on: 25 November 2020, 06:43:45 »
I would check the door seals, when you turn up the fan you increase the air pressure inside of the car, that air would normally go out through the vent exhaust in the rear of the car. But if the door seal isn't tight enough air will leak out that way and probably create that sound. On one of my Omegas the window fram on one of the rear doors was slightly bent outwards and road noise was heard through that gap I had in the seal. I could bend the window fram back so it fitted as it should and noise was gone.

And if you are going to put everything back together I would suggest to replace the heater element.

Have you checked if the headlight adjusters aren't broken?

On the inside door panels there is dates on the backside of them. Gives a clue on when it was put together. Dates on parts like this are usually in Just-In-Time flows and should be no more than a week ahead of assembly line.

Omega General Help / Re: Automatic gearbox misbehaving
« on: 30 September 2020, 17:13:13 »
REPORT,

I could fill a bit over 2 litres before it started to drip out of the hole.

Now it behaves as normal.

I think it was five years since I did an auto oil change, had forgot about the running engine part  :'(

Thanks for the support guys!!

No, no engine running.
Does that make a big difference?

Haven't done that before when I have changed auto gear oil.

Car is a 2.6 with AR25 gear box

I just drove a bit more and it is like it goes in to Neutral when you stop. Then after a few seconds it goes in to drive again and everything is OK.

Omega General Help / Automatic gearbox misbehaving
« on: 29 September 2020, 15:32:15 »
On my Winter Omega that I'm about to take out now on October 1st I did an oil change in the Auto gearbox.

Oil didn't look bad and smelled as good as it can. Changed the filter too.

Now when I drive the car it behaves strangely. When standing still and I start the gear box free wheeling a few seconds and then hook up. In worst cases with a big tugg and muffled clonk sound. It didn't do this before the oil change. Oil level is OK.

I have used Valvoline ATF Dexron III.

I haven't driven it for a long run yet, just a few laps around the block. Engine is up to temperature. When it starts running it shifts OK and kick-down works.

If I put it in 1st gear it works as expected. The free wheeling is only in Drive.

What could have happened???

Thanks
