Spare Key
« on: 17 November 2007, 23:19:15 »

My new Omega only came with one set of keys... what is the best route for getting a spare set?

Cheers

If you get the whole thing from Vauxhall it's very expensive.

I'd go to vauxhall or a key cutting place for just the key blade (but make sure it comes with a transponder chip) then get one of our guys with a Tech 2 to pair it to your car. That may be enough for a spare key, but if you want the remote as well, get one from ebay (beware there are several types which aren't compatible - although they look identical) and get that paired at the same time.

If I wanted just a spare without the transponder can I take the key in to any key cutter for a straight copy, or is it more involved than that?

A key without a transponder will only open the doors but not turn the imobiliser off.

Just got a complete key (3 button type) brand new, chip and programmed here in Belfast from the the "key centre" cost £75 all in, that is 1/2 of what VX wanted?

Gives you an idea of cost  :)

Hi, whereabouts are you? I have just had a key, with fob, cut and programmed for £85, Vauxhalls wanted £143. I got it from a local locksmith who has the equipment to program, always worth asking round, you will need your car pass to get it done though.

I can sell brand new uncut keys with transponder and program to the car if its the RF type.  This leaves the owner to get the key mechanically cut, and get a new fob (before visiting so we can program that at the same time).  A carpass is required.
