General Discussion Area / google chrome pop up
« on: 03 April 2018, 15:04:38 »
Computer running Windows 10.

I keep getting a pop up stating there is a recommended update for my pc which leads to a chrome download page.
Normally, I just right click on the taskbar and get rid.
Now, that doesn't work  >:(
Also if you click on the "cansel upgrade" text, it takes you to a download page anyway.
How do I stop this and no i'm going to idiot the pc with Percy the persuader  ;D

Okay, the story is ......  I lost my last job back in November  :'(
Employment chances around here for a ex self employed sparky who is now in his 50's are close to zero.
Quite simply, they are too many blokes (and women) out there who have just the same amount of experience but are 20 years younger then me so you get the odd interview and then a polite break orf  :(

Our lass is working her more then ample assets off keeping the house going and my money is rapidly running out so I either go back on the road for 8 months a year and do 11 hour shifts / anything upto 11 shifts in a row on shite money OR I go self employed and try and get some of my old customers back  :y

I am under no illusions that I can't make a decent living out of sparkying around here due to the amount of people in my field trying to scrape a lifting but something is better then nothing AND i'm quite happy to take a small retail job if I can to make ends meet  :y

Right, I have applied for a business start up funding through the Pinnacle People New Enterprise Allowance which if I can write a plan / fill out the online plan which passes the tests then its worth 65 quid a week for 13 weeks then 33 quid a week for another 13 weeks tax free  :y
A added bonus is that since I went bankrupt 7 years ago, I don't owe a penny to anybody and intend to run the business (as in life) on a zero debt basis. I'll only take a wage when feasible I to subsidise any other part time job I can get.

Another ball ache is ................ I have turned down 3 part time jobs since Christmas due to the fact of if I take a job BEFORE I get this grant, it excludes me from this scheme.
Once I get the grant, I can take a part time job as long as the business hours are more  :y

Has anybody on here ever applied for this ?

Looking at the booklet, imo its leans more to retail and most of the questions are irrelevant to me BUT my lovely adviser strongly disagrees  :(

Help pleeeease  :)

General Discussion Area / HiFi Amp question
« on: 23 February 2018, 11:36:44 »
I'm running a Cyrus 2 / PSX power supply.
Absolutely love the sound it makes but recently its seems flat as a fart when first used so yesterday, I had a little play  :)

Play any source straight after its powered up and it sounds flat at any volume.
Power it up and leave it for 20 mins or so before sticking a source though it and it sounds punchy as hell  :y

A bit of research tells me that there are 2 whopping big capacitors in there which are the old 80's waxed paper variety which deterate over the years.

Apparently, there is a upgrade with a more modern cap which will make the amp bounce again.

Question is .............. are these caps in the amp section OR the power supply section ?
Also, where is the best place to source these ?

Don't want to have to send it off to a specialist who will rape my wallet because i'm skint anyway  :(

TIA  :)

It really is your choice  ;D

Its Microsoft apparently, kindly telling me how my computer had been hacked and how if I press the windows and R key at the same time then type some text into the box, it will save the world from certain destruction    ::) ;D
Well I must be a shite listener because I kept typing it wrong and after 23 minutes he called me a "see you next tuesday" and cut me off   ::)
Must admit, I was nearly pissing myself with laughter for the last 5 minutes of the call  ;D

I don't think he was impressed  :D :D

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / weird charging problem
« on: 18 February 2018, 14:44:06 »
A bit of a weird charging problem  :-\

I changed the regulator on the car maybe a couple of years ago.
On fitting the regulator, the most it would push out is about 13.5 volts which even though low I left it and decieded to look for the cause elsewhere when I had time.

Okay, finally remembered and had a bit of time on my hands since the middle of november (lost my piggin job  >:() I decieded to look into this last week.
First things first, with the battery holding a steady 12 volts over night I started it up (fired 1st time / no problems) and got the meter out.
I've got 12.7 at the battery. Also plugged the laptop in and that also gave a reading of 12.7 volts too.
Because the car hasn't had a run for a while, I took it upto York and back (about 100 miles with a few back roads thrown in) for a bit of a blast (heaters / radio / lights off.
Got home before lighting up time so popped the bonnet and checked the voltage across the battery to find at idle, its now pushing out a more healthy 13.8 volts  ???

First question is ............  Whats the hell is going on here ??
Second question is ............. With the normal running output of the alternator at around 14.0 volts, how is this varying voltage going to affect the various systems on the car ?
Reason is,  over the last year or so ive had a slow lambda sensor fault triggering a fault code when doing around 50mph / 5th gear with a very light pedel.
Also I have had problems with the vapouriser holding a steady pressure reading.

Is this volts drop possibly the cause of these little gremlins ?

My parents have discovered the wonders of catch-up TV / iPlayer on the pc and want to watch the stuff on various TV's around the house.

Running a HDMI cable is really a non starter due to the logistics of it and the Wi-Fi signal will not be the greatest at its furthest point due to solid walls / shitty router so we are only looking at SD pictures here.

I'm thinking a fire stick or similar  :-\

What are you lot using  ?

Omega General Help / Quick LPG question
« on: 31 December 2017, 13:18:51 »
I've a KME Gold reducer on my omega.
This and the full kit must be 5 or 6 years old and this is the second car its been on.

I've noticed over the last 6 months or so that the pressure which is normally around 1.1 bar has been fluctuating all over the place getting to the point that I'm plugging the laptop in c/w 4mm allen key drive and having to adjust it up or down on a monthly basis  :(

The pressure can be either down as far as 0.9 bar or as like yesterday, up into the 1.30's were it hunts like a bastid at idle and is flat as a wet fart when driving hard  :(

Am I looking at a new reducer or is they a repair kit out here ?
OR could it be something else ?

For the record ..............  the gas / petrol map is spot on and when its setup around the 1.1 bar mark, it runs great  :y

TIA  :)

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Audio ampllifier power source
« on: 27 December 2017, 11:38:50 »
Father Christmas got me a very nice amp for the omega's system i'm building.
Normaly when i've fitted this sort of thing, the main power supply comes from the battery with a inline fuse fitted.
Okay, the question is .............. is there heavy duty 12 volt busbar behind the dash that I can tap off to save me running a whopping big cable through the bulkhead of the car OR is it a case of tough titty   :)

The amp is a Focal Auditor 4 x 70 watts ( 4 ohms) RMS so its not exactly lightweight  ;D

TIA  :-*

Omega General Help / MV6 springs
« on: 29 November 2017, 10:48:06 »
Am I right in thinking that these are no longer available ?

My fronts have done over 150K now and even though fitting the rear poly bushes have made the slow speed turn in a hell of a lot better, it still just doesn't feel right at motorway speeds  :(
I have checked the steering idler for play and that seems okay to me.
No play on anything else at the front either.
All shocks are B4's and have done less then 20K
Rear springs are in one piece.

Am I looking at Eibachs ?

A good friend of myself and the wife gave birth to twins a year ago 3 1/2 months early.
Obviously, the kids was very lucky to survive and the lad in particular quite frankly shouldn't be here considering the amout of operations he has had on his tiny little body and wouldn't be if it wasn't for the incredible staff at the maternity unit.

Well the twins have just celebrated there 1st birthday and our friend is trying to raise a few quid via a just giving page for the support group, Bliss (who try and support mothers and premature / sick babies in there hours of need).
Leanne herself has had to resuscitate Kacy, her son on 2 occasions while waiting for the emergency services to come so you can imagine the strain that that would put on a young mother.

Well Leanne been the sort of lass who would do anything for anybody, she is participating in this years Little Lights Walk in support of the charity Bliss.
She has also been spending spare time she can find knitting tiny covers for the incubators / premature baby care cots.
Basically, anything she can do to give something back  :y

Now I know some on here are skint and Christmas is coming ect but if anybody is in a position to chip in then the link is bellow.
There is also a "share on facebook" button if you wouldn't mind  :y

Who's using what.

Not interested in a all in one, scanner / copier type machine as i've got a very good stand alone flat bed scanner already.

I just want to print high quality upto A4 (A3 would be a advantage but not essential)

Most pickys will have come from a DSLR and are pretty high res  :y

I've used Epson for years but the inks tend to dry up quickly and non oem inks don't work very well  :(

What's out there that runs with Win 10 ?

Preferably free (because I'm a tight bastid  :D) or what sort of price are we looking at for something decent ?

I've used Adobe Photoshop in various guises for years so know my way around that but the discs and more importantly the licences seem to have gone walk about  >:(

Needs to be good because i'm going to scan and transfer all my photos and slides / negatives onto hard drive / cloud based storage so I will be tweeking them as I go along  :y
