Thanks tunnie. Is it easy to apply or does it become a nightmare to get it free from bubbles, etc.?

Hey, I wouldn't mind doing that - is it legal?
Dare I ask you where you got it from, and how much, please?

If you ever get a definitivce answer to this one, please let me know! I still go back to what I wrote 4 days ago - how come that fuse blows if the feed to the starter motor is direct, NOT via any fuse whatsoever?

I have a (wood)pigeon problem too, but not a crapping one (well, ok, they DO crap, but that isn't it) - the real problem is the noise they make. I don't mind birdsong, mostly, but the wood pigeon "call" is the most annoying in the world and they do it for EVERY daylight hour, pissing me off to the ultimate!
If any Oofer has an effective way of killing these vermin without harming the other bird population I'd be delighted to hear about it. Putting poisoned birdseed on a bird table, with a notice "For wood pigeon only" probably wouldn't work?

I hope this isn't a silly suggestion....
If you replace that fuse by a headlamp bulb, maybe you can trace the faulty circuit without costing a fortune in fuses; it will allow you time to investigate safely?

Too long a story to go into here, but a few years back I successfully challenged a neighbour opposite me who was using his house to run a business from, mainly computer-related, but it entailed lots of vehicles, some of which we large lorries, frequently using our cul-de-sac and blocking it.
My challenge was on the basis of "unauthorised change of use" of residential premises to commercial use in a solely residential area. I took photographs of the activity and vehicular congestion, sent them to the council and the business was forced to close.

"minifreek", I agree that 80 Amps is a hell of a fuse to blow, but surely it can't be the lternator? The battery connects directly to the alternator and thence on to the starter motor - no fuses in the pathway.
That said, I don't have a clue as to which circuits the 80 Amp fuse protects, but somebody will know......

It doesn't hurt to Google!
I did remember the name correctly and they are still in business:-  http://www.oko.com/

Too late to help you now, Rods, but a few years back my son had a habit of riding his bike into things and collecting punctures, so after tiring of mending them I filled the inner tubes with OKO (I think that was what it was called), a rubber solution liquid that seals on contact with the outside air.
I never had to mend a puncture after that, but the most remarkable thing was he often rode on rough terrain and through thorny areas - still no problem.
Eventually he grew up a bit and gave up cycling, so out of curiosity I took the inner tube out - it was riddled with hundreds (honestly, hundreds!) of puncture that were effectively sealed by the bright green rubber solution that had sealed them all!
Many thorns were still in evidence, some of which had caused splits as the bike was still ridden hard with them in place.
If this magic product is still available, maybe you might consider using it as a preventative measure?

I heartily agree with the sentiments expressed here; if it had not been for the help I have received from members on this great forum my Mig would have joined the choir celestial long ago!

Does your departed battery have a date/date code on it? If it's as recent a purchase as you said and they know you at the vendors, maybe they will replace it on trust without a bill, because faulty products like that are returned to the manufacturer for credit usually and therefoe no loss to the vendor.

I wait with breath abated, Chris!
If no untoward sounds or smells, I agree with Kevin that you wait at least a few hours before offering them a signal; they will still be in a delicate state after the long sabbatical that they have had and will need tender treatment.....

The alternator gives up to 120 Amps output at 14.4 volts. The product of those two quantities gives the power to the battery, i.e. 1728 Watts.
Hovever, it will be a heavier load than that due to inefficiencies and friction, so say 2,000W or more. This could mean a real-life load of approaching 3 horse power.
I confess that having made these calculations it isn't great compared to the total output of a 2.5 litre engine, so there could be another factor coming into play here, but you have already proved that this sick battery is the culprit, so I'll await input from others to give another view!

Happy to help; please let me know how you get on, also if you get the battery replaced. Out of interest, where did you buy it from? They usually have at least 3 years' warranty.
