Happy to accept all the banter and p**s-taking, STMO, but the bottom line is that OOF is a great place full of helpful and knowledgeable people, and Al personifies that spirit.
One day I must get along to a Meeting to put faces to the names on here.....

This Saint of a man supplied and fitted an alternator for me this morning and I'm eternally grateful.
Thanks Al.

I appreciate your trying to be helpful, Al, but that is about as likely as my winning the "Body Beautiful" Contest!
However, even if it were true, it wouldn't have changed my present situation ( I was going to type "current situation", until I realised what a dreadful pun that would have been) and therefore still up the creek without a paddle!

Chris, I hate to disagree with such an illustrious member, but the ones I purchased from ebay are soft-ish, easy to operate and very durable - must have lasted at least 6 years with no signs of wear yet....I wish I had kept a record of the vendor, so others could benefit too. I may have paid via PayPal and will search my records, but do they go back that far?

Would you believe that this very morning the warning light DID come on! It definitely had not done so in the past.
I emailed the vendor of my battery asking for a replacement because it had gone low capacity and they said I must get checks carried out at, say, Kwik-Fit and get a print-out.
They confirmed that the battery is indeed unserviceable and also that the alternator is giving zero output.
All credit to Kwik-Fit, so often criticised on here: they made the checks inmmediately and provided the necessary print-out courteously and without cost.

This fat bloke didn't have to crawl underneath - top access was just about do-able, despite fat arms.
Ugh, ALL connections secure and tight, so it looks like I need an alternator (at pensioner's rates?) and a man that can!

Al, you are completely blameless in this; the connection that Andy H was referring to is nearer to the battery, along from the starter motor, and it was a good thought on his part - I will check as soon as I am able, assuming this fat bloke can feel around under the car and reach the connecton!

I forgot to mention that I bought replacement cases from this same supplier, as the old ones were falling apart - holes where the fingers went on the buttons - and they are still as new.

I bought switches and cases from ebay a few years back and they are easy to fit with a fine-tipped soldering iron.
I agree with TB that it simply isn't worth the effort of trying to salvage any old parts.
I'm sorry I cannot remember the vendor on ebay, which is a bit important because there are several sellers on the bay and quality is variable; mine have lasted quite a few years, so I chose luckily.

First the starter motor (my thanks to Essex Big Al for his invaluable help there :y) and now the alternator - left me stranded in wildest Bedfordshire last Saturday when the battery emptied itself!
Why didn't the "no-charge" light come on to warn me?  >:(
Anyway, it seems that I have no output from the alternator and I'm hoping that an OOFer might have a suitable one for sale, please?

Ok, time for a plaudit for the British - Quad 33/303 preamp and main and Tannoy York speakers, all 43 years old and sound as new!
The prices hurt me at the time, but nowhere near as much as to buy them today; IF you could.....

I am a life-long user/owner of Minolta cameras; at least, I was until Konica took them over, leading to the final indignity when Sony then bought Konica out.
I do concede though, that Konica's Minolta DiMage A2 is a bit awesome!

He actually played a goodie in "The Devil Rides Out", a satanic film, if you know it, and when he was summoning up the Angel of Death, he was SO convincing that he even scared me!
And in that classic, "The Wicker man" - well, what can you say; he had Britt Ekland for company, too!

It's as beautiful as a piece of fine jewellery!
Is this a stupid question: how is it cooled? Put it in a moped and see how it goes?
