General Discussion Area / Re: Amplodine

A lof of those side effects of Amplodine sound very similar to those you get when you're prescribed statins to reduce cholesterol. A few mates and work collegues have been prescribed statins, and the side effects are not pleasant - sickness, headaches, feeling knackered and especially aching joints (even more than normal ;D). The practice nurse tried to get me on them as my cholesterol was a little high at my last couple of MOT's, but I declined them with the likely side effects others had experienced. My mother had high cholesterol for years with no medication for it, and she lived to the ripe old age of 97. Statins - no thanks.

General Car Chat / Re: A very close call...
« on: 20 June 2022, 11:07:03 »
The Omega would no doubt faired better than the Crossland had they collided, as it was going at a fair speed, but there would have been no doubt it would have been written off had the worst happened. Had it been on a classic car insurance policy, in some circumstances there is option to keep the vehicle for a reduced payout. Not ideal, but better than a miserly payout. Thankfully, it didn't come to that....

General Car Chat / A very close call...
« on: 19 June 2022, 12:17:10 »
Decided to go out in the Omega to collect a chinese last night. Parked on the main road nearby, then walked away from the Omega towards the Chinese. Heard the sound an engine revving hard, followed by the screech of tyres as a nearby car set off and accelerating with its engine screaming in presumably first gear. Turned to look to see what was going on, and saw a Vauxhall Crosland mount the footpath behind the Omega, but thankfully it swerved round it, back onto the road and swerved into a nearby side street, colliding heavily with a parked Seat Leon, which was shunted into a Vauxhall Corsa. Extensive damage was caused to the Crosland and Leon. The Crosland ended up across the road, the driver got out and sat on a chair in the small front garden of a nearby house :o. I hung around as no one else had witnessed it, or could say who the driver was. The 'after the event witnesses' soon appeared. Funny how people who have no idea how to handle a situation such as this want to get involved....
Thankfully, no one was hurt. But how close my Omega came to being written off - too close for comfort including myself too for that matter, as I was on the footpath behind my car when it all started. I would have been truely gutted if he had smacked into my car - it was that close.......
I've got my own thoughts on the reasons why the driver was driving in that manner, but that is for the Police to sort out.
At least the Omega lives for another day..... :y

Had one for a while. LOved it ,hated it!! Recammed it but 3 bearing crank meant i darent rev it!!

Half shafts were splinned but no matter how the were lubed thy would still lock up under load on a bend and then release so you were a yard away from line :-*

The 2500 Triumph straight six was an ancient long stroke lump that didn't like to rev much. Mine was pretty breathless above 4500 RPM.

Probably designed in the fifties. Plenty of low speed torque though. :y

The needles fitted to the HS6 SU's had a lot to do with the 'breathlessness' at higher revs. BL were jumping on the bandwagon of emmission awareness at this time. The standard BDB needles delivered quite a weak mixture at the upper end,  but a change of needles to BPZ or BDM needles enriches the fuel delivery at higher revs, keeping the same idling and low rev mixture, whilst not particularly adversely affecting fuel consumption. It has increased the driving experience, with a noticeable difference in pulling power at higher revs.

Since the introduction of E10, I have only put Super Unleaded E5 Tesco Momentum in the 3.2, and it seems a lot more spritely, and more responsive. I have also used it continuously in the 2.6, and initially not noticed any particular difference, but since having its brand new ECU fitted, it has transformed the car. Its not quite up to the 3.2 performance, but its better than it ever has been.
Imagining it, you could possibly argue, but the performance in both certainly seemed to have improved in my mind using E5.

The trouble with the remoaners, is that they simply cannot accept that the people they claim to represent disagreed with them, and they are still sore that the electorate had the audacity to vote to leave the EU.

Brexit happened. Accept it and move on.
Yes, or f@ck off to an Eu country  :y
They can't. You're only allowed to stay in the EU for 90 days in any 180 now.
Unless you move there ;)

Which I believe was Raeturbos point...
For which you need a Long Stay Visa, and there is no garantee you'll get one.

Or residency. But there are certain necessary requirements to get it...

Omega General Help / Re: Tyre Brands
« on: 06 June 2022, 22:12:40 »
Thought I'd ignore a tyre thread, but then thought Id give my sixpen'th....
Recently always had Michelins on my Omegas and family dailys. Had differing experiences with Dunlop and Goodyear where the shoulders developed minor cracks, and deep cracks around the circumference in the tread grooves. Hankook have been good, but wear quickly, similar to Pirellis.
I like Uniroyals and Maxxis on my classics, but the makes are somewhat restricted due to limitations on size.
Got Michelin RO1 on my Audi, which are very good, far better than its original Pirello P Zero Rossos (ditchfinders), but have been superceded. Like Michelin Latitude Sport 3 , - great all round larger sized tyre imho.
But each to their own.....
