i love my v6 but am really really considering a Td next - how do they compare to modern diesels? i just love the torque on our company passat, the fact that you can really shift without to much effort is what is swaying me - torque on v6 seems to be somewhat lacking :-/
I detest that vag 1.9 diesel with a passion, but on its narrow power band, it can accelerate (in 130bhp form, or higher ;))

The VAG is more economical, but much smaller, lighter car

well IMHO the VAG tdgti130 and above are fantastic engines an absolute pleasure to drive :-*

and i appreciate the bargeness of a mig (i've had mine 5 years now ;))

and obviously would get it chipped :)

don't think the veccy gasket is the same mate (covered in gen chat at moment) :-/

other expense is the purchase of a torque wrench that goes as low as 8Nm for approx £25-30 (unless you have one or can borrow one) :y

I haven't got HID's on mine but i'd imagine they have a similar set up as the others. ie there should be 2 little hex screws on the front top of the light, 1 adjusts left to right and the other does up and down.

Even if they are HID's they need to be set up in the first place but don't quote me on it :-/

why not just fit the 3.0 cams to your 2.5 for an extra 18bhp and a lot less hassle.

(obviously it's not legal  ::) but i certainly wouldn't bother telling my insurance company about different cams ;))

You'll have to remove tha cams, and how are you going to compress the valve springs to remove collets? :-?

I remember years ago i had a cvh escort (worst car i've ever owned :-[) but the one good thing was the ability to remove the rocker arm and compress springs in situ :)

I would have to measure one but, that wont be tonight as I am playing trains, cranes and rotten landrovers this pm!

M6 rings a bell.

I have not had a stud snap on a V6 yet.....and I have done a few and removed many!

I have M8 in my head - I saw an M8 bolt in wilko today (while getting white spirit ::) ) and it looked about the same thickness...

Will see if I can find an old one in my tool box tonight. Now you mention it, I have 2 3.0 heads knocking about - just wonder if any of them has a stud in... :y

If you have heads can't you measure the hole?
Kevin

that's what i was thinking ::)

get a vernier calliper in there M6 will be approx 5mm ID and M8 will be approx 7 ;)

Noisy tappets is common especially on older engines, a few short oil changes (500-1000 miles) may clean them out abit or if you can be bothered it's heads off and squeeze the dirty oil out in a vice (bit of an effort :-/)

Or like me just wait for the engine to warm up then it goes  :-X

dont need to take heads of to remove followers just cams out !  :y

will someone please tell me how to change the stems seals in situ??? :-/
