« on: 16 June 2007, 10:58:55 »

Guys, i am thinking of attempting a auto gearbox oil change ,where is the best place to get 7 litres of dexronIII, It's coming up £34.95 for 6 litres on ebay by the time you have added gaskets and another litre of oil is it really worth doing yourself when i have been qouted £95 from a auto transmission specialist to do it.

DIII is 20.99 from halfords (coma) for 5l.  Gasket and filter kit £38 delivered. does the tranny place know that there is no drain plug or dipstick on omega, and both sumps have to come off?

Only problem with DIY is the fact that you can't flush out the oil cooler and pipes very well, as a gearbox centre will have the pump to flush it all through with fresh oil. IMHO.

Although Halfords don't do it, most motor factors will sell 1l DIII Coma. Or check what the other places sell - for eg, Motorserv, near where I live do 5l Coma DIII for 23.99 and 1l for around 7.99 (fortunately, they give me discount for having a TC card, so I get a little cheaper)

The U.S. oil maker AMSOIL published on their a website the recommended method of changing the fluid in the torque converter and oil cooler (generic - not Vx specific), but if you want to get this done then it is only DIY since garages don't actually do this... the official Vx auto box oil fluid change is drop the sumps and refill, and this is what you get if you book it in.
