Anyone on here in the UK planning or hoping to take a foreign holiday this year?
Driving to France, flying to Italy, ferry to Spain or what have you. Maybe further afield.
Just interested in what people are hoping to do or indeed got booked Covid permitting.
We are hoping to visit friends and family in England and Scotland and maybe even come back through Ireland and ferry back to Spain in the autumn. Bit concerned about both England and Spain infection rates which are definitely going the wrong way.
-
Not planning on doing a holiday anywhere this year-or any other year for that matter,I don't do holidays at all well and prefer just to have days out to places that are of interest to me.
-
No foreign holidays for us until normality returns so doubt if we will ever go abroad again for some while, have used the caravan a couple of times this year next jaunt in September to Yorkshire.
-
I think you've gotta be off your rocker to go abroad right now. ::)
Still it gives people something to whine about to the BBC when they unexpectedly find themselves forking out thousands for a quarantine hotel, because Grant Shapps misread the data. ;D
-
Our project team is sending 6 people out to Utah at the weekend, to spend 2 weeks proving a system to the USAF.
So far, 2 of them have their National Interest Exemption come through, from the US Embassy. Whether the bother 4 get to go is anyone's guess.
I suggested sending me, because I'd divert on the way back to Ohio to see my sister for a few days.
Apparently they don't need my skills, which is true.
-
Hoping to go to the Canaries in November. And technically an essential worker, so see what that does to quarantine... And if I have to self isolate, then it's because I have caught something ::)
-
Hanging fire to see what the world is like mid September, may grab a cheap weeks all inclusive somewhere if it looks calm. I'm front line NHS but don't think we are exempt from quarantine anymore sadly but could really use a weeks break :-\ The wife isn't keen but I'll happily send her a postcard ;D
-
There is no way I would contemplate a foreign holiday during the current situation.

The main reason not to go abroad is whether you'll be able to come back home. A situation that could change between getting in the car and arriving at the port...

.
Exactly right , sitting on a plane with countless others , absolutely no way.

Somebody is travelling or the airlines are flying empty planes.!
“ There were 489 flights between Spain and the United Kingdom programmed for Monday, three times more than a week ago – on July 12 there were just 152 flights. The most active airports are Palma de Mallorca, with 113 flights; Ibiza (70); Alicante-Elche (62); and Málaga (59)“

Good luck to them.

They're constantly tweaking the flying programme to try and meet demand as the restrictions keep changing. And all those places you named are concentrations of second homes.
Had an aircraft the other day, as an example, which took 106 people to TFS and returned with 45.
Having to work from home for a week when they get back won't actually affect alot of people.
And from what JVT was saying the other day, being outside in the sunshine is one of the lowest risk places to be, so you're undoubtedly better off on Maspalomas Beach than you would be at the local rec ::)
-
Just got back from Cornwall. Thats a foreign holiday ;D
Do have some flights to somewhere in a several weeks, but expecting not to be able to use them.
-
I'm going to North Yorkshire for a week....again. Don't care if it's cold, raining or whatever, a change of scenery will do just fine.

Well, I know that Three doesn't work too well there, unless you are in Scarborough, Brid, or getting fish and chips in Whitby ;D

:o :o

I certainly would not want to go abroad at the moment.
What I would like is to go to Yorkshire or Lancashire, like STEMO, and find when I am there that due to new COVID restrictions on travel I cannot come back for 6 weeks! 8) 8) :D ;)
-
I've just got back from Devon after 5 days away, and I'm still alive - I think :-\

I've made sure that the cottage we're staying in has WiFi and, whilst out and about in the wild, I doubt I'll be sad enough to want to use my mobile :P
-
A good many years since I was last in Whitby, all things being equal i'm going there on 8th August for the day as there's a steam traction engine rally due to take place that weekend :y

There's usually one in Pickering earlier than that. Clogs the whole town up from dawn till dusk. Apparently it's okay to drive down the A64 and up from Malton at 6mph in the middle of the holiday season. ;D
-
You can fly to Cornwall. :D

And catch covid on the way.

No more likely than in the queue for KFC at the services :D

You're not forced to queue at KFC, you are forced to sit, shoulder to shoulder, with the great unwashed on a metal cylinder.
-
No one holds a gun to people forcing them to buy the tickets and board the plane ::)
And the air is filtered and changed frequently. Oh, and you have to wear a mask on the plane, but not in KFC ;)

That's right , no one forces them, but you suggested it was better than driving. Sheesh, do keep up with what you said three posts ago ;D
-
Actually, all I said was that you can fly to Cornwall...
You can fly to Cornwall. :D
See :P
-
You can take a bus to Birmingham.
-
Or a train to Totnes.
-
You can take a bus to Birmingham.
That would almost certainly involve force ;D

Just been watching an West Midlands ambulance service programme on 5. When the casualties were ringing in, I was saying "Listen to that accent, let them die". ;D

Condoms are advisable and have a high efficacy rate against the clap and other STD's! :y
Unless you're a bareback rider then it's advisable to self isolate in the event of a weepy willie! ;D
-
There's no demob with a blobby knob. ;D
That's what soldiers were told after t'war. Aye. ;D
-
The best presents always get wrapped ;)

If you do get away, car hire will be harder and more expensive.
At Malaga the companies sold off a lot of their fleets and reduced staff numbers due to lack of business.
-
Everything is f**ked up. Just sit tight for a while.

Not to you they didn't :P

I might hire something interesting for the day to drive up into the mountains, but hiring a car for the entire holiday only makes sense if you don't drink or are renting a Villa in the sticks.
Most places have cheap, reliable bus services and readily available affordable taxis.

I struggle to get a car from Enterprise in the UK within a sensible timeframe ;D
Obviously, they blame it on covid, though that's just an excuse to hide behind.
-
It does seem to be a convenient excuse for screwing consumers... Tescos, for example, have stopped cashback at regular checkouts, you have to go to customer service, an oxymoron if ever there was ::)
It's been a 'thing' for the last 18+ months, contingency policies ought to be as productive as 2019 by now, and if they aren't, then they obviously don't work >:(
-
I went to Eurocraprats to collect some parts a while back, and they had sent the wrong ones.
When I complained to the girl at the counter her reply was "Covid".
Mine was "What happened with all my previous orders over the last ten years then ?" ::)
-
The only thing that's affected me is a regular appointment I have for one of my eyes, should have treatment every 12 weeks, now 6 weeks overdue but understandably so .The only car parts I've needed were an oil filter for the Subaru which was straight of the shelf so Covid hasn't been much trouble here.

just how much cash do you think goes into each till to enable them sell it to other customers? Who pays any charge over a few quid with cash? Those of us who do insist on carrying cash are old fashioned. Or just old.
-
It's a recent change and an inconvenient one as the cashpoint is often out of order... Obviously 'this isn't Tesco's fault' but it does the necessitate a journey to somewhere else if cash is required due to the purchase stipulations on cashback.
Pre TCV no one had an issue keeping adequate cash in the tills at any one time :-X

.
We've had £300 in cash in our safe since March 2020 & it's still untouched we pay for everything on our cards I've had £40 in my wallet for " emergencies" for months , it's definitely a thing of the past.
-
I think more people pay by card now, especially as they were encouraged to do so to break a possible route of transmission of the virus.

Or Spanish ! Cash is still king though you aren’t supposed to pay cash for anything over 1000 euros. Never been cashback at Spanish supermarkets.
-
just paid for 2 weeks in Madeira , fly out on the 9th august.
