Excellent, not that they will have anywhere to stay because of all the Brits 'working from home' aka an excuse for a mid week break

Hopefully they'll return the favour and by the time I go on holiday, they will have knocked the testing on the head as well...

Dont need to catch them. They are escorted by UK authorities once they enter UK waters until they are safely cocooned in their new accommodation (which is often 4 star hotels), given, pocket money, food and any other essentials, until they are processed their new lives are organised for them.
And then we still have the same morons who welcome them with open arms wailing about the NHS being under intolerable strain, Education system collapsing, and a dire shortage of affordable housing.

Well....you'd better stay indoors, because there appears to be a pandemic of stupidity at the moment. I've come to realise that you can only rely on one person.....yourself. Even my wife is stupid, so no help from that direction

So is entering a sovereign nation illegally... But that doesn't seem to stop them

The Texan approach could be a reasonable compromise... Arrest them for trespass and lock them up for a year. Then deport them back to their country of origin.

As long as our welfare state is, arguably, the softest touch in Europe, we will always be ‘El Dorado’  not just to asylum seekers, but anyone from poorer countries. It also encourages our own wastrels, and facilitates the epidemic of single parents, family breakups, etc., just for starters.
