Apparently within the Energy Bill that went through Parliament the other day are measures that allow the authorities to force entry to fit smart meters.  :-\
This from citizens advice:

Refusing a smart meter

You don’t have to accept a smart meter if you don’t want one. If your supplier tells you that you must have one installed, contact the Citizens Advice consumer helpline.

If you refuse a smart meter, you might find it hard to access all tariffs. This is because in future the cheaper tariffs offered by suppliers might only be available to customers with smart meters.

If you need to replace your old-style meter because it’s unsafe, you might not be able to refuse a smart meter. This is because not many old-style meters are made now - your supplier might not have any in stock.

You can ask your supplier to install your smart meter with the extra functionality switched off. This means it’ll work in the same way as your current meter, and won’t send any information to your supplier. Contact your supplier to check if they can do this.

When I was with Eon, it was a condition of my deal that I had smart meters fitted. However, every time they wanted to come round to fit them, I had just mysteriously tested positive for Covid!  ;D

I’m still with Eon and I still get the messages saying they need to fit a smart meter. A guy did actually turn up one day (they did let me know he was coming) and he said it would take him around ten minutes to change the meter. Over two hours later he swapped them back again as the smart meter wouldn’t work. I have told Eon several times that the electric meter is in a cupboard with foil backed plasterboard and a galvanised door. The only place they will be able to send/receive a signal is when they are actually inside the cupboard.  ;D ;D  I did smile when he said “I can’t receive shit through there with the cupboard door closed”.  ;D

Today's Net Zero news is that the Govt will hand over £500m of taxpayers hard earned cash to Indian conglomerate TATA, to replace the coal fired blast furnaces at Port Talbot steelworks with electric arc furnaces.  ::)

Apparently this will result in about 3000 job losses, will only reduce the UK's total carbon emissions by 1.5% and it will also result increased steel imports.

At least we'll be able to kid ourselves that we are leaders on the 'world stage' with our futile virtual signalling!  :)

Oh... and haven't we been told time over that Net Zero will bring in a green jobs revolution?  ???  Tell that to the good folk of Port Talbot!  :-X

It would be greener to just import all of our steel......and cheaper.

Anyone who thinks you can have a net zero blast furnace clearly didn't pay attention in their Chemistry lessons at school. ::)

That would be handy in the event of a war so you can easily build more ships, tanks etc. It was only 80 years ago that Britain was involved in building more ships, tanks etc etc.

Interesting article from the Telegraph...

The furious Blob will try to destroy Rishi Sunak for his net zero heresy

Tories must get behind the PM’s green pragmatism, and prepare for a Brexit-style battle in the courts

Interesting read about balancing the grid with renewables and how it might affect our lifestyle.

Apparently in order to balance the grid, we paid £2.7bn to turn off wind turbines when it was too windy and solar panels when it was too sunny in 2021!  :o

The electric arc furnace is primarily for recycling steel, not making it, so effectively Port Talbot will cease to produce steel. Hence the job losses as no coking plants needed and a much simpler/smaller process

And we'll import all the steel we need, produced in a blast furnace in Turkey or China instead.  :-X  ::)

Perhaps we should put the boat peeps to work dismantling ships and farming. It would save a fortune as they would only require food and board, and we could then compete on level terms both for labour and production costs.
