Omega Electrical and Audio Help / mp3 input / using the tapedeck
« on: 19 September 2012, 00:46:24 »
If like me you find 6 CDs not enough and are prepared to sacrifice quality for having thousands of songs available, get a "USB 2.0 Tape Cassette Adapter MP3 SD/MMC Card Reader" - type 400305527419 into eBay. It's basically a casette shell containing an MP3 player.  It plays through the tape head so quality is not as good as a CD but better than a tape.  You need to add an SSD card.   You can't go wrong at £6.80 delivered from China. Includes a remote control.  Also available in ripoff britain if you want to pay £16 and not get the remote.

I previously tried a cheap 99p jack plug to casette head adapter that plugs into your own MP3, the quality was abysmal.

Omega General Help / elite badging
« on: 18 September 2012, 00:59:30 »
My 2001 fl elite says 'elite' on the sides but boot says 'Omega 2.6 V6'.  Shouldn't it just say 'elite' there like some I have seen?

Omega General Help / extra power supply - sat nav, phone etc
« on: 10 September 2012, 16:34:20 »
I've just fitted a permanent power supply for my sat nav, to stop having to plug it in to the cigarette lighter.

One tip here was very helpful, don't cut off the plug and simply wire in 12V, as the plug transforms 12V to 5V which the sat nav uses. 12V direct would likely blow it.

What I couldn't find out here was which wires to use (I have wired it to the under steering column fuse box).  It turns out is was very simple - open and lower the fuse cover, undo two crosspoint screws, gently pull down the fuse box itself and you see together one red and one black wire, about middle top of fuse box.  The black is earth, the red is permanent live.  I cut those and rejoined them wiring in a cigarette lighter socket (cheap on ebay) and plugged in the sat nav socket to that.  The socket and plug and spare wiring then fit neatly in the cavity behind and below the fuse box.  I also have an inline fuse in the socket supply. Highly recommended to disconnect battery before doing this but I couldn't be arsed.

The sat nav itself fits neatly under the dash  cover, just below the car information screen.  It still sees satellites through the vinyl coated foam dash cover.

Omega General Help / detaching a detachable tow bar
« on: 27 July 2012, 16:06:03 »
My elite came with a factory fitted detachable tow bar but no key.  The lock looks a little distressed anyway it may have been disabled.  The owners manual instructions don't help me remove it though.  Has anyone had this issue before, is there a way to detach it or should I try for a replacement key from Vauxhall?  Are there any tricks to removing it even if I had the key - nothing seems to move but I  haven't tried the club hammer yet. Thanks.

Omega General Help / elite anti dazzle mirror and boot
« on: 15 July 2012, 21:35:53 »
I have just upgraded from the 2.5 Reflection to the 2.6 Elite and am struggling with the anti dazzle mirror.  It seems very dark in daylight, so dark I can't really see my face in it.  Is this normal?

The other odd thing I'm finding odd is getting used to the boot.  I keep trying to open it without the remote, is there any way to do this without the remote or dash button?  Also it only pops up an inch or two but I assume that is normal.

Apart from that I am loving the Elite but while I'm at it, the climate control system - does anyone use the 'auto' button?  I can't quite see the point of it.

Thanks
