what rear springs go on this - is it self levelling?

Had mine 7 years - a lot of work done under warranty - because of problems in first 3 years VX extended the warranty to 5 years.

Was basically going fine and just routine servicing, brakes etc but colour display failed in 2007 and that demanded resourcefulness and this forum purely because of the pathetic inability of VX to repair CIDs for £200 wanting to charge you £1500 for new unit. Bought CID off German ebay at finish.

VX themselves screwed up a cam belt change and had to fit a new V^ 3.2 engine.

I have  really been happy overall with Omega and the Irmscher kit has helped it avoifd a too dated look. The drive is fantastic but worthless as a trade in £2k tops I suppose. This forum is really helping me keep costs down including dealing with VX dealers who to a large extent make so many errors in diagnosis and repair that you have to have 2nd and 3rd opinions to deal with it.

He will need to keep an eye on one common fault on the 150 diesel and that is the Dual Mass Flywheel. There is/has been an issue with the amount of torque on this engine causing the flywheel to disintegrate. So he needs to listen for any clutch rattle and odd things happening - clutch may seem not to disengage.

Front springs are another common fault on Vectras and Signums.

The VX price for DMF and clutch replacement is £1500 plus - many are done under warranty but some guys are just out and get hit. Even when it goes in warranty they photograph the damage and are looking for driver abuse to avoid paying up.

My Signum developed a fault at about 4000 miles from new - VX said no fault - whole thing collapsed at 16000 miles a few months later and they had to replace everything. Despite that - great cars and I would have another.

When I first posted I was not aware of the Total Vauxhall information - anyway I now have a reply which is not that helpful given the cost they want to do the job.

From DVLA

"Freedom of information request

Your request was received on 4 March 2009 and I am dealing with it under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. In your email you asked How many new registration for all Vauxhall Omega models by year from 1994 to 2003 and if possible how many vehicles are still existing for each year.

I can confirm that DVLA holds information falling within the description specified in your request within its databases. However, we estimate that the cost of collating the information would exceed the appropriate limit of £600.

Section 12 of the FOI Act exempts the DVLA from complying with a request where the cost in determining whether we hold the information, and locating, retrieving and extracting the information exceeds £600.

This represents the estimated cost of one person spending 3.5 days (or 24 hours) costed at £25.00 per hour. This costing is set out in the Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004.

However, DVLA has commercial selling agents to whom we sell anonymised data.  They may be able to help you with your request.  I have provided a list of them at Appendix A.  There will probably be a charge for any data they supply.

I would like to advise you that it may be possible for DVLA to provide the information requested at a later date due to the implementation of new IT systems, thereby bringing the cost of doing so below the appropriate limit. At present we have no exact date of implementation.

If you are unhappy with the way the Agency has handled your request, you may ask for an internal review. "

I cannot imagine that a good database analyst who knows the sytem they were working on would take more than a couple of hours max to write the appropriate query. Maybe I will modify my request to just one of the parameters to take it to £1 below the £600.

They do not say how many hours it would take of course.

I will have to go back on this. Ah - the good use of taxpayers money!!

At least - such requests will becheaper in the future - but we do not know when the new system will kick in.

Did you ask by varient & engine type/size as well?

No - thought we should keep it simple to test the system. 1 step at a time - not sure they will go for this even - fingers crossed.

Under Freedom of Information act I have asked DVLA for total registrations of Omega models by year 1994 to 2003 and how many in each year are still registered i.e. on road. I thought they would tell me to bugger off - but got a letter saying they are looking into it. Phoned them - my request is apparently unusual (surpised at that !!). Probably get the bugger off letter next week.

Just about to do the Manchester and back run in Omega. Signum has gone to Devon for a few days rest.

This exchange is just bringing this forum into disrepute. Things have been said and done which I suppose in hindsight people may now reflect on and wish they could start again.

I have no issue with the value of the car - I have full spec irmscher 3.2 elite and it is worth to me a lot more than it would sell for. trouble is - what do I replace it with at that spec, size quality. If I were in the market I would probably discuss with the seller but if he sticks to a price then fine- but what does he offer for a trade in etc may come into the equation.

I think we should move on now.
Nice car fancy selling it ;D

Unwise for me to sell - I do not know what to get in its place (which is as cost effective as keeping it) - it also has a brand new engine and hopefully will run another 5/6 years.

o2 has been fantastic since changing to them in August last year. I had loads of hassle with Orange who I had been with previously for 9 years or so (via freeserve etc).

Like everything I suppose - if o2 gets more popular then service may drop off but for me is the best.

I have not had to call support since I started. Their set up is easy and support for set up first class

Thanks -  but do Elite's from 2001 normally have a thumb wheel ?- it seems a bit odd to have no variable intermittent wiper speed.

3674
Please can you clarify what the hell is fitted to mine. Handbook says I can adjust intermittent wipe with the thumb wheel - but I have no thumb wheel. So as far as I know I just have one intermittent setting. Was this normal on Elites around 2001?

3675
I have both on wife's Signum Design - very effective - no problems at all.

Never worked out if I have intermittent wiper variable speed or not on Omega
