Gearbox -ford focus auto diesel

Just been talking with a family member.

How is your car going?

Not so good. Thought we would buy a Ford Focus estate. Diesel for economy and auto cos autos are good for us. Looked around for ages for a low mileage car with service history, got one and now it has developed a gearbox fault . Cost of repair is more than cost of car :'( :'(
