General Car Chat / Forgive Me OOF, But I Have Sinned
« on: 11 June 2011, 21:29:47 »
It's a terribly sad day for me.

I have swapped my Omega (99 3.0 Elite) for another car.

I cant tell you what I swapped it for because if I do, I'll get stoned to death.  All I can say is it has a blue oval badge on the front and back.  :'(

On the brighter side, it goes around corners very nicely..... shame it doesn't go along straights like a rat with a rocket up its arse.

Anyways.  Not long until I jump back into an Omega......... Just waiting for the right one to come along!  :y

General Car Chat / MOT Today

1999 T 3.0 Elite 133,500 miles.

Passed with no Advisory's.  Yep, zero.  :y

Emissions test shows the car seems to be running on thin air.  Even the handbrake (which I never use) has perfect balance and excellent force.

I'm a happy camper for another year!

Just goes to show that proper maintenance, even from a novice spanner chucker like me, pays dividends.

Happy New Year!  ;D

General Car Chat / Senator B Transmission Question
« on: 08 December 2010, 18:40:52 »
Hi Guys and Girls,

Can an AR25/AR35 from an Omega fit into a 1992 Senator B 3.0 24v?

I gather it will bolt into place, but the electronics are very different.  Am I right in this, and if so, how much work is involved in replacing the ECU etc.

Would it be easier to just get the knackered transmission reconditioned?

Thanks for your responses!  :y

General Car Chat / Succesful Day :)
« on: 28 August 2010, 21:59:51 »
Yesterday, the car started to run on 5 cylinders, very lumpy and massive smell from one of the CAT's.

Today, I replaced the plugs, hoping it was a dodgy plug.  At the same time, I took the plenum off, cleaned the throttle bodies, inside of the plenum and the breathers.  To be fair, the breathers were very clear anyway, but as it was in pieces, I gave it the full treatment.

3 cans of Carb Cleaner, and a lot of rag later, everything shiny like new.  Re-assembled everything and fired her up.  Still running on 5. :(

A few phone calls later, and a new DIS-Pack is looking like it's going to be £135+VAT, but I'll have to wait until Monday to get one.

One final call to a good chap in Bristol (Gary, Kingswood Cavaliers) and he has genuine DIS-Packs on the shelf, £100 cash  ;)

I tell him which one I need (model number ends in 107 I think) and head up to collect.

Nice shiny new DIS-Pack in hand, I drive home in a horrible Peugeot 106, and get to removing everything again.

This time, removed the Wipers and Scuttle panel for easier access to the DIS.

Managed to remove it in under an hour, some shouting and screaming, but hey-ho.  New DIS fitted, re-assembled everything, and fired up..... PERFECT.

New Plugs and clean Throttle Bodies have made a noticeable difference to performance.  Just seems to pick up and go like it should, no hesitation, no flat spots.  Awesome.

A quick pic of the Old and New DIS;

It's not the nicest of jobs, but for anyone who needs to tackle this job, be sure that it isn't so bad as it seems.  :y

General Car Chat / Sports Mode on a V6
« on: 13 August 2010, 00:13:31 »
Right.  Vauxhall have produced Auto's with this feature for donkeys years.

I have had several Omega's now, and not a single one (all 3.0) has made the slightest difference when in Sports Mode.  In the normal Economy mode, when you plant your foot through the Firewall, it will redline in every gear and accelerate as fast as the engine will allow.  I understand that if you engage Sports Mode and drive normally, it will not change up as quickly as usual, and will lock out overdrive (unless you hit an indicated 131MPH (as I found out tonight (on a private road))), but why have sports mode on if you aren't giving it the beans?

Other Vauxhalls I have driven with the Auto Box (smaller engined varieties), the Sports Mode has made a small difference, hanging onto the gears for slightly longer, but that's all.

So, Omega Compadre's, does that little 'S' button really help with performance in the Omega?  :-/

General Car Chat / Ford Ka *hides*

Anyone know where the Central Locking Control Module is on a 02 Ford Ka?

Any help with Ford Wiring Colours would also be awesome.  I'm fitting an aftermarket Remote Central Locking jobbie to a Ka.  Dont ask me why!  :'(

General Car Chat / Central Locking ECU
« on: 12 August 2010, 19:41:31 »
I pretty much know the answer to this question, but worth asking anyway.

Would the Central Locking ECU from a 1998 Omega fit a 2003 Astra G?

If not, does anyone have the part number for the Astra G Central Locking Control Module please?  :y

General Car Chat / I dont really know how to ask for this
« on: 26 July 2010, 15:10:09 »
Well.... basically.... my brothers, girlfriends, sisters, next door neighbours, cats, vets, daughter has a Ford Ka (52plate).

It has central locking, but not remote.  I have a couple of crappy cheapo kits kicking about and was going to install one.... both door locks are giving up, so only sensible to have another way of gaining access to the car.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the original central locking control box and motors please?

And dont bother replying with things like "Tell her to buy a proper car" or "The thing is probably fit for the bottom of the river" because I have already told her that, many-a-time  ;D

Thank you.  :y

General Car Chat / Re: Omega Pricing...
« on: 15 May 2010, 03:13:35 »
Unfortunately, I dont think of an Omega as being an Omega if it doesn't have a few Cows Arses in it.  I know some people prefer Cloth, so it might be worth more to them, but.......

I'd look to pay somewhere around £1k - £1.1k for it.  Probably much less than you would expect.  I'm possibly in a minority though?

For anyone who is watching it live, post your opinions here on how the fight is going.....

To start, your predictions.

For me, Haye, in the 5th (provided Klitschko doesn't kill him in the first 2)

General Discussion Area / Lunar 'Moonlight'
« on: 01 September 2010, 23:46:24 »
Sorry guys, another Caravan thread.

I have been offered a 4birth Lunar Moonlight for pennies.  It is a 1990 model, with cassette bog retro-fitted.  The van is immaculate inside and out.  Damp has just started to get in through the front, but I'm a dab hand with Sikoflex and Seam Sealer..... After looking at the 'van, I can tell that these products would certainly solve the problem.  The seller seems to think a whole world of work needs doing.

This would be my first van, and although I like the thought of caravaning, I'm not sure enough to go out and spend a few grand on my first van.

It's just me and Mrs BM, no kids, so space isn't really an issue.

Does anyone have any experience with this make/model/age of van, and if so, is there anything to look out for in particular?

To give you an idea, I've been offered it for less than two full tanks of fuel!  :y

Anybody help me out here?

I fancy a night or two in a reasonably priced B&B/Hotel down south over the next couple of nights, just to get away with the Missus.

Anybody have any suggestions on where to go?

Basically, somewhere nice and quiet, a restaurant, couple of pubs.  Nothing fancy, just somewhere 'homely'.... somewhere inviting.

Not necessarily south.  If anyone has any other suggestions (West Wales etc) please let me know!  :y
