GID - What does it monitor ?
« on: 21 December 2007, 15:58:40 »

Can anyone tell me what the GID monitors ?

I know it obviously does a brake light check but what else does it warn you about ?

I'm particularily interested in whether it warns about low fluid in the washer resovoir.

many thanx

Yep. it will come up with a message if screenwash is low. In addition, coolant, oil, brake fluid levels (IIRC), bulbs and automatic gearbox issues are reported.

can also confirm it monitors screen wash levels. mine warned me for 4 days then screenwash packed up, both front and rear. topped up but still didn't work. got to remove pump and clean filter now. moral of this story... if it tells you screen wash level low..top it up as soon as pos. not much fun driving with smeared screens in fog at night!

It covers:
Fuel computer - Range, mpg, stopwatch, avg speed etc
Sat Nav - pictorial only
Brake lights
Head and tail lights (not HIDs)
coolant level
engine oil level
screen wash level

It will also pop up messages if the gearbox ECU ('Automatic Gearbox') or HID levelling ECU ('Low Fld Vision') detects a problem.

GIDs only fitted to some facelifts.

If its a full height MID, its as per my list above, but no Satnav
If its a half height CCRT700 display, its as per MID but displays phone info as well
If its a half height TID, it just does radio, temp, and time

It's a CCRT GID and the bloody sensor for the washer bottle must be buggered !!!

Freezing fog on the M8 last night and an inch of crap on the screen and you've guessed it, no fluid left in the bottle !!!  ::)

Is it easy to locate the sensor or am I going to have to take major components of the front end off ?

Assuming that it wasn't frozen....

Sensor in side of washer bottle. Easier to get to with front bumper off (surprisingly easy to remove on Omega).

Also, check the pump gauze isn't clogged before condeming the sensor
