To flush or not to flush
« on: 30 May 2008, 13:24:10 »

Question:

I'm having an oil change done tomorrow by Kwickfit, (I know I know)

Should I run a can of flush through beforehand based on the fact that I don't know when the oil was last changed and my breathers still seem to be blocking rather quickly.

If so what brand does anyone reccommend

Cheers

I posted the same question on annother thread regards the oil cooler probs.  No one actually replied.

But of the products on the market the only one I tend to remember is the Wynn's version.

No, as it can losten some deposits which can do more harm than good. Stick to regular oil and filter changes.

General opinion is no.

They can do more harm than good by dislodging crap which can then cause a blockage.

If you think a flush is needed, do some oil changes every few hundred miles.  that will nicely clean things

Only costs about £8 to do an oil & filter change yourself  :y

I have had a forte one used on mine in the past. Excuse my ignorance if they are the same products. Anyway as you said My car came with a reasonable history of oil changes. I do recall others advising that if history was sketchy not to flush as it could dislodge some of the accumulated gunk which could block an oilway.
Try doing a search on this subject. It should bring up quite a few results.

Not to flush,,,,   That be the answer!  As said previously, it losens the gunge in the engine and causes blockages elsewhere..
