Smaller brake booster (>90% retrofit)
« on: 05 December 2020, 07:46:11 »

Hello!

This will be my first post in this forum. :)
What I am wondering is if there is a smaller brake booster that will fit in the Omega engine bay?
Because I live in a right traffic country my car is LHD.
And because the Saab engine I am retrofitting in the car has the exhaust outlets at the left side (when the engine is "RWD-mounted") my exhaust manifold will collide with the brake booster.

Does anyone have a tip of a brake booster (with atleast 90% retrofit, because I do not want to rebuild "everything") where the diameter is a lot smaller compared to the original Lucas brake booster?
In essence bolt on is what I am looking for.

Given your location, I understand why you went with the SAAB engine, but the Z20LET is a much better fit, even in LHD.

First look would perhaps be a different exhaust manifold :-\

Nah, maybe C20LET in that case. There are always too bad internals in newer engines.
But regardless which GM II engine I choose they are never equipped with Trionic 5 or 7 engine management system, which, on the other hand the Saab B204/B234 and B205/B235 is.

Maybe I should just move the OEM brake booster a few centimeters forward.

That is at least quick, easy, cheap and you know all the parts work together.

The problem is that I need to be sure of that it does not collide with the original X25XE engine.
To fit the turbo I have to relocate the ABS unit to where the battery normally is mounted and because of that relocate the battery to the trunk space.

But I still need to make sure that the X25XE will still fit when I relocate things because the original engine need to be there once a year when it is time for inspection of the car.

I then have to be sure that the brake booster does not collide with the V6 engine if I move it a few centimeters forward.

Could you place a washer between the servo and bulkhead on the right hand mounting bolts to point it left a touch?

Obviously you don't want to do anything that might prevent it working properly...

Alternatively, run the exhaust out through the bonnet if the turbo is where the battery was... If you're having to put the original engine in once a year, you may as well be completely illegal the rest of it :-X Swapping the bonnet is only four more bolts :D
