Engine management comes on intermittently
« on: 15 March 2021, 14:26:59 »

It's a 2.2 DTI and the engine management light comes on for a few seconds and she goes into limp home mode.  After a few seconds the light goes out and all is normal ... until it happens again, which could be after a mile or after several weeks.

I suspect a sensor plug needs reseating - can anyone suggest which I should try and where they are?  I have the Haynes manual.

Today it first came on when I  drove through (was forced into!) a pothole with the nearside wheels.  It then came on twice when I made a sharp right turn.

There is ABS sensors,on the hubs. Check wiring in the wheel arch for being lose or chaffed. Not much else around there.

ABS isn't going to put the engine management light on ...  :-\

You need to plug the car into a code reader and see why the management light came on and go from there ..... anything else is purely guess work  :y

I figured that.  It came on when I pulled into my drive so I left the engine running for a minute to ensure it gets logged.

I agree with you. What I meant was the only sensors, that are around the wheels are the ABS, but as you say will not upset EML. So the fact it comes on with steering one way, is a red herring.

Being a DTi and having the engine management light coming on intermittently then going off by itself with loss of performance is normally P0400 codes (Vacuum / EGR) in my experience but you'll need to get the codes read to be sure.

Need to check all the vacuum pipes, especially the rubber 90 degree joints and definitely the big U shaped one that goes to the Vac pump on the back of the head, also worth cleaning the EGR (Very simple setup on a Y22DTH engine.
