Z16XER oil leak
« on: 15 July 2023, 20:57:29 »

One of the advisories on today's MOT was for a not serious oil leak down the back of the block. Apparently it wasn't dripping but the block is wet so it's definitely current.

Before I go flailing about, torch in hand, are there any likely suspects I should be checking out first?

I've all but ruled out the rocker cover gasket, I wasn't in working gear  but I had a quick look and the very top of the block looks dry, plus the gaskets were replaced only 2yrs /18,000 miles ago.

Any suggestions welcome  :y

Not sure how these would give you an oil leak... I thought they were vacuum operated?  ???

Will have to get the book out ;D

The operating mechanism is external, whilst the flaps are internal.

Worth a look around the oil cooler area and I seem to remember a field remedy for the cam bearing bridge sealant, give the area a good wash down and then look.

Thanks both, I will investigate further.

Mark: oil cooler is good, since I did all the seals just over a year ago. Cam bearing bridge I will have to do some googling I think
