Title: Car struggling to get started
Post by: TraceyCassels on 13 December 2019, 11:40:23
Garage has recommended finding someone  who can look at Ecu  as showing fault  at idle

Any decent independent garage should be able to read the ECU fault codes and advise what work needs doing  :y
unless by "garage" you mean petrol station  :-\

They want me to find someone who I can send Ecu   unit  to as they tried to up the revs on car but ecu has fault and won't let them

If they triad to up the revs mechanically, then of course the ecu stopped them, that's it's job. I suggest you find a garage with actual mechanics in it.

sounds like they don't have a clue what they are doing
did they say what the fault code was ?
what are the symptoms ? apart from the money light (engine management light) being on ?

Car struggling on start up once up and running going fine

Car struggling on start up once up and running going fine
probably something simple like the ecu coolant temperature sensor
I'd consider taking it to another garage to get a proper diagnosis with live data and reading the stored fault codes  :y
correct diagnosis is very important ,swapping big expensive parts (like ECUs) in the HOPE of curing a fault is not the way to go  :(

2.2 petrol
Cam sensor, especially if the car is showing a gearbox code.

Only replace with a genuine one from a genuine Vauxhall dealer that you genuinely have to walk into.  :y

Seconded. Failing cam sensor is the most common cause of running problems on 2.2 and must be replaced by genuine GM item.

I would suggest cam sensor, though it normally throws a P0340.

I would get some better diags first, plus somebody needs to undo the (incorrect and stupid) changes the last garage did.

Desmond might throw a gearbox code, but rarely a cam sensor one  ;)

Virtually every one I've looked at does.

But you have a proper code reader ;)

But any generic EOBD reader can read those same engine codes ;)

It's not a trick question...
