I nearly got "arse ended" abiding to the stupid new rules about allowing waiting pedestrians to cross as you turn into a street 
I indicated , slowed right down, the pr*** behind me was going way too fast ,and the silly old dear who i stopped to let cross ,stood there oblivious 
I had to gesture her to cross ,which is in contravention of said "stupid new rules" 
I'd have the moral and legal high ground , but that doesn't replace out of stock car parts or repairs (insurance would not repair)

I’m not going to lie Dave, I have completely ignored that new part of the Highway Code, and I’m yet to encounter a pedestrian that has expected me to stop and let them cross. Neither do I expect them to stop for me when I’m a pedestrian as I consider it a dangerous rule. That’s not to say I’m a complete arse, as I do beckon pedestrians across the road when I’m approaching a main road FROM a side road, but I only do that when I’m absolutely sure that no other car is approaching from ANY other direction. I give cyclists plenty of room but I always did anyway. Not because I care about them, I just don’t want to scratch my car by buzzing their brake levers. 
Where I live they have three full width speed humps in the High Street and pedestrians will insist on using them as crossing points. They are within fifty metres of a traffic light controlled crossing for heavens sake. I’m slowly educating the pedestrians using the humps as crossings by scattering them as I continue on my way.

I kept going turning into a road, the lady crossing was waiting till it was clear and not expecting anyone to stop. If I had stopped then the arse end of the car would have been stuck out and it is just off the exit from a mini island, well dodgy.

Not much in the highway code was mandatory, it was all recommendations so we can all share the roads safely.

Obviously, we've successfully managed to breed out common sense, and now everyone is trying to legislate against stupidity, which is a hiding to nothing, esp in this country.

Now, what has ragged me off....

Yesterday I fitted the new light cluster, and to get it to align with the bodywork, there are some torx E4 adjusters.  Not having an E4 socket, I had to struggle with some pliers.

This morning, I found a Clarke E4 - E24 rail of sockets.  Grrrr
