If your car is equipped with a GID, you only get pictorial images of upcoming junctions. If you have a CID, you can have pictorial or map images, plus pop-up close ups for complex junctions

How will I tell the difference, I've not received the car yet so I can't check but it would be interesting to know which I have?

They problem with Sat Nav in Omega, is it needs the CD. As the lasers get tired with age, it struggles to read the disc.

In the morning with CD being cold, it will often spit it out, due to it being unreadable.

While it is accurate, I found it can spit the CD out mid route too.

Lack of full postcode can cause problems too, I've struggled to find some locations.

Fixed a couple that have done that by cleaning the lense properly, point being, if the unit can read the Nav disc say 80% of the time then to my mind it hasn't failed (You find a lot of these units have the original 2002 Nav disc in them, not a copy). If the unit can't read the disc at all under any circumstances then its time to replace it!

+ on cleaning it, the NCDC in the 3.2 does appear to be unmolested. All original and working fairly well, so a little clean up would do well.

Be nice to use it on an up-coming blast to Darlington  :)

How are you cleaning it?
Getting in there by removing the Nav drive from the HU on the bench and cleaning the lens methodically with some cotton buds and pre-boiled water. If you look at the lens closely on a used unit you will see it has a film of dirt on it rather than just dust - much like the inside of a windscreen gets after a while.

Just boiling water, no other potions?

Boiled - let it go cold! - Boiled it just to remove any impurities in the water that would stain.

No potions as I didn't know the effect on the plastic lense.

Hmmm interesting might try this... Just a thought but what about deionized water?  :-\
