Removed the plastics round the steering wheel there this morning along with another heap of stuff. Anyway this is what I found. All wiring seems all ok and plugged in ect but I know nothing about wiring so have a look and tell me what yous think.

Looks 'normal'. May be corrected on this, but the [what looks like a] single wire with foam round it is the cruise control one? This based on owning an Omega with non-functioning cruise, and upon inspection, snapped wires here. The rest of the stalk functions worked fine.

Three wire on petrol, two wire on Diseasel, I think:)

Bad angle picture. Need to double check. There's 2 wires there. Maybe 3

It's got 2 wires for the cruise control. One is white/light grey the other is a light blue.

Any ideas what to check next? I've a multi meter at home but would need talked through what to do

If it won't switch on and all else seems in order, you need to renew the clutch and brake switches as one of the might be sticking which will prevent the cruise from engaging :y

or at least check its adjustment. I once fitted a new brake switch (wouldn't come out of Park) and lost cruise unless I lifted the brake pedal. Another click on the switch sorted it.  ;)

If no good on the above (as it costs nothing to check) my next port of call would be another switch. Depends, I've got a few guys round my way that have odd old Omega bits which I m lucky in that I get charged a pittance, or even given hem for free. There must be someone who has a spare on here. To be honest, even f it turns out not to be the switch, worth having a spare one anyway, as they're on the 'known failures at high mileage' list.

I'll look in my spares boxes, as a TD two-wire one is no use to me, and have no desire to return to Turbo Weasel ownership in the future  :y

My '99 TD CDX has cruise as standard, therefore as Elite, yours must have had a failure if its a new stalk. :y

If you've got a TD 2 wire stalk fitted, measure the resistive loop of the stalk first, this tells the ECU a Cruise Stalk is fitted, as without this the Cruise wont work, no matter what button you press.

Disconnect the Stalk and with the Stalk isolated, measure the loop resistance (across the 2 pins) you should see a loop resistance in the region of 670 ohms. Then by pressing each button in turn you should see the following resistive changes -

Normal, Idle, loop resistance = 670 ohms
Press Cruise On / Speed Increase = 67 ohms
Press Speed Decrease / Resume = 167 ohms
Press Speed Reset / Cruise Off = 1.6k ohms.

Thanks very much all of you guys. Will try the multi meter and check the adjustment on the switches on pedals.

Daft question agsin as it's an area I've never had to poke at but is the switches on the pedals easy got at of is there a certain degree of stripping needed?

My td estate is in beautiful condition and just want to get these niggles sorted. Have everything working as it should.

Oh yes and get my lsd fitted but that's another story....

First check if the trailing wire from the stalk is 2 or 3 wire (just remove upper cowling)

It's 2 wire. Will check resistance then pedal swithces

Just done this with help from my neighbour. All readings are as you mentioned.

Take it the next port of call is the pedal switches????
