There is a relay inside the seat base of leather and Elite cloth seats, but its enclosed inside a small box and not audible in normal circumstances. It also only works if the heated seat is operational as the coil is wired in series with the element for the back.

Normal cloth seats are not controlled by a relay, with the  dash switches taking the full seat current (of about 5 amps) on pre/mini facelift models.

well what is the clicking then as seat get warm it clicks seat gose cold abit then click gose warm again???

cloth frunts, says on there web that there are heat sabilizer on both earth wire to the seats but looked in seat and under the seat and there is nothing, just heating strips and wires nothing els there??

Its part of the heating pad and is a thermostat as opposed to a relay. Its in the seat cushion pad. IIRC. I'll take a look later as I stripped a cloth seat down some months ago.

Think yourself lucky. The heat pads on my drivers seat don't work. never something that bothered me till today -2 degs  in Northampton  :(

If yrs have not burnt out might be fixable.
I did not attempt to go out today, 160mile round trip in the snow to haverhill or stay in bed then go to the pub. There was only one choice! ;D
Self employed is the only downside so no pay :(
