How on earth do you release the auto gbox selector switch plug from the side of the gbox - I disconnected it ok but can't release it from the side of the gbox - it's loose but no matter which way I pull it wont come out - I'm definitely missing something here - can't see very well as the exhaust is in the way.
Any help would be appreciated :y

I am assuming that you have separated the plug from the socket. One half is now free (the half that goes away in the wiring loom). The other half is still mechanically attached to the box casing, but is loose. It is just clipped onto a tab on the mounting bracket. It's a one-way fixing arrangement. To remove it you need to slide the plastic plug towards the rear of the car. Unfortunately you can't slide it backwards because the upper and lower tabs (at the end of the plug, nearest to the wires) will not allow it. If you bend these two tabs slightly away from the plastic it should go. Reading it here is probably a bit unclear, but when you look at it I hope it will be more clear.

I am adding a picture that might help. This is the side of the plug that you can't see when it's fixed to the box. The metal tag on the bracket engages with the slot in the plastic moulding. (centre of moulding, just before the top).
