Title: Sportstars back on
Post by: Cliffo B on 01 March 2012, 03:02:31
So March is now here
Time for off with the 15" winter wheels
And on with Miggy's 18" Sportstars
Yippee!!
Spring/summers coming
Must say hardly been able to put the 15" Michelin Alpin's to a test on ice/snow
With hindsight I would'nt have bothered with winter wheels
The council did a good job of keeping the roads clear of what little snow we've had
However I can certainly say their a very quiet comfortable grippy ride in the wet

Good info on wet grip and noise levels Cliffo. What are they like in the dry?

Must say I'm glad I didn't bother with winter tyres this year, would have been a complete waist of time and money given the little snow we had. Last year would have been different possibly, but even that only gave two or three days Argo.

Don't worry, Chris, I'm just off to the post office to put 12 months tax on the Westfield. Mark my words, you'll need your brollie later. ::)

You think you can get 12months of use without it being off the road for straightening repairs :o

I realise and appreciate that I'm pot calling kettle black....  :-[

Feels like the old car again Cliffo B?

With hindsight I would'nt have bothered with winter wheels
I chose not to bother this winter, as I didn't think we would be too severe here in deepest Northamptonshire...

Ooh that's harsh! You know in your state if KW comes after you, you won't be able to get away... ;D

That would involve Kevin Wood's Westfield doing about 100 miles without some moron taking him out...   ...I'll take my chances ;D

Hmm. I reckon I've got as long as it takes for Westfield to supply the new rear wheel arch so I can take off the ugly Isopon'd temporary repair off and bin it. Then it'll get trashed again.

So.. yep, on previous experience, I'm confident enough for 12 months. ::)

;D International Pick on Kevin Day underway, I see! ;)

I take it Westfield aren't the quickest at supply, then, Kevin?

FFS!

I can exclusively reveal that the IT support contract for the Post Office has been awarded to... the Retards at Brackley BP. >:(

Walk into post office. See sign saying "Be patient. We are currently experiencing problems with our computer system."
<vein in forehead starts to swell>
"I suppose a Tax disc is out of the question?"
"Can't even sell you a stamp today, I'm afraid"
"What? :o"
"Our systems are down. No tills, Nothing."
"Oh..."
"Can 't tell you when they'll be back up either. Might be back now <tap tap tap> Nope. Might be days yet. Just don't know".
"Oh.. Ermm, well.."
"It's ALL post offices too. Not just this branch. The whole central IT system is down"
"Ok. Thanks then. Enjoy the holiday"

Naturally I left, depositing 10,000 miles of ruber on the floor. Damned hard work, that was, given that I'm on foot. Next stop the shoe shop. Lets hope they are functioning. >:(

Don't wish to rub it in Kevin, but I've just returned from a Post Office in Norwich where I successfully taxed my new car.  Their computer systems were also down, which meant I couldn't pay with my debit card.  Easily solved though as there was a cash machine just up the road.  Got the cash out and now I'm taxed for 12 months.  :y

Online works fine. Just did mine online. I'll take a chance on the "failure to display" until it arrives in the post. ::)

If ordered on 29th or before, you have 5 days grace. Ordering on 1st, you dont. :(

.. and if you order before the 1st and the car is SORN you get to pay for an extra month while still waiting for it in the post. ;)

Immaterial, anyway, because it's currently up on axle stands having the cracked brake disk replaced. Crack looks old enough, but it's done about a mile since MOT. :o

Hmm,Sure do sleep Steve,But it's such an inconvenient nuisance :D ;D ;D

Oh dear Vamps :'(
2 very differant motors
I've never driven a Jeep but I can sympathise
Quite a contrast !!

As for the ride of the Michelin Alpin tyres in dry conditions
I've found them to be much the same as the Michelin Pilot Sport 3s
Possibly quieter
I'm changeing over the wheels this weekend
So I'll pay particular attention to any differances that are highlighted

Did you ever get the car running on lpg Cliff ?
Title: Re: Sportstars back on
Post by: Cliffo B on 02 March 2012, 14:37:45
Well Steve :D ;D ;D
In short not yet
Had to stop
Other things took priority on my time(family)
And wanted to do the suspension update (bladders) along with full lube changes Eng, Autobox, Diff
Like to do this stuff in prep to help Miggy provide worry free Caravan touring
After touring finished another priority
Full undercarriage waxoil like treatment (keep the corrosive winter road treatment from attacking Miggy)
And of course Winter Wheels had to sort out steelies (source and refurb)
I'm not a particularly speedy doer but I'm thorough
Up to the present time outside temperatures been sub zero
So now looking forward to a final completetion of the LPG
How it stands
Rear end will be finished when filler installed
All pipework & wireing is complete as far as engine bay
Injectors are installed & manifold jetted
So whats left is vapouriser and all the other items in engine bay
Of course there's the commissioning inspection and certification to face ::) :'( :'(
