Title: YOG - My car finally goes to rest in the scrap yard
Post by: SJKOO01 on 02 March 2012, 16:19:24

Well unfortunately I had to scrap my Ex Police 3.2 Auto Mig today.  I've spent over a year trying not to let things get this far and let go so easy.  All was going well and till upto about a couple of weeks ago, with my personal circumstances having changed so I can't afford to have a main car and a play one now, it was getting far too expensive  :-\ . Plus my pockets don't go that deep  ;D.

Was in fair condition for it's year and high milage, etc. Didn't want to end up doing this, but no one wanted the car unfortunatly, so only one way things were going to go.
Stripped the car down partically few days ago, so few bits to sell on now to those trying to keep their cars on the road before having to let go as well.

Took the car for a quick last drive and gave her a bit of a spanking, before heading to the scrapyard and weighed her in :'(.

Did have plans to do the car up as a New Zealand patrol car, but sadly all plans didn't quite go as planned (isn't it always the way).

I never did get to sort out properly the bodged roof holes that had been done on it... Doesn't matter now though ::) .

Will miss the weekend journey's in YOG, loved the v6 power and surprising one or two drivers in their expensive cars, thinking Ohh... it's only an old Omega  ::)

Some photos of the car and the last one before I finally walked away.

Didn't have the time, more importantly nor have I the space now to have kept the 'large stuff' off the car, otherwise I would of possibly stripped the car literally down to the shell ::)

Sad day to see a car go for scrap when it is a viable proposition. What with the scrappage schem and the price of fuel it doesn't surprise me.

Secondhand prices are high in Spain too but even imported and matriculated onto Spanish plates it would still, always be a foreign RHD car shunned by locals.

A bit lower than the last time I took one in, so a little disappointed.  But at the end of the day it's money in my pocket, so not a total loss.

And in a few months time I would of had to tax and insure it again, so it would of cost me more than that to be legal, just for it to sit on the drive as weekend car :-\ .

Would like to get another Mig sometime in the future if I can, if I manage to get sorted out with a property that has a big enough yard at the back to store the car while modifying it to how I want and not give DVLA / government my money and till I'm ready to put it on the road ::)

It's wrong that the average person cannot keep a car without it costing a kings ransom....as well as having to have the land to keep it off the public highway >:(

Gutted for you Mike :(

What a bummer  :'( I have only just found out it was for sale....I would have had a go at buying it as a runner.
Still, its gone now. Sorry I did not get to hear about it sooner and helped you out.
I would have kept the mig though as my main motor  ;)
