Title: FREE Software Update.
Post by: duggs on 02 March 2012, 17:48:41
Out of the blue I've received a written offer for a free software update from a Vauxhall Main Dealer during which time they carry out a
"24 point visual health check".

Whats the catch ?

Your "pride and joy" has the insult of a Vx "tech" attempting to break it....and probably succeeding

Its a loss leader to get you in for the 24point check, where I guarantee they will find something you dont want them to touch...

LOL !   But I assume they'll advise you of the "faults" they find before offering a cost to put them right.

Jamie...I'm sure you upgraded my gearbox and climate in December 2010 so is anything important enough for me to let VX screw up ?

My ex got a call a couple of months ago about a free update on her diesel Fiat 500 ecu that would improve her mpg Hmmm ::) I'l bet if she took the car in the dealer would say whilst we had the car in we found this, that and the other that needs attention. The dealer in question does not have a very good reputation in the area so she declined the offer

Seem to remember this ploy being mentioned on here before. Generally, with the excption of andyc at Drive, there is very little a dealer/service dept can achieve that cant be sorted on here.

File the letter IMO. ;)

Not on a 3.0l. 2.6/3.2 has an engine ECU update around cruise control, and a couple of other parameter shifts, not noticible though, and not worth doing IMHO.

For a 3.0l auto, the worthwhile ones are ensuring the TCM is at V9, and climate panel at V2 or V3 (depending on hardware). If I did these, nothing else worth doing :y

 ;D
Surely you cannot believe that VX wilkl give you someting for NOTHING?
What they will give you is bad news and a far lighter wallet.
Personally I havn't found a VX techie that can work the bloody machine correctly!
Get onto a member that has one to do it and at least then you can be assured that they have your interests in mind and not profit.  ;)

Is there a way of telling what version the climate panel is on without tech 2?

Nope, requires Tech2 or similar device
