Title: How much for traders to advertise cars for sale
Post by: mantahatch on 03 March 2012, 09:18:28
In the search for a car for my son, I called into a used car seller. Just talking generally about hs cars and where he advertises, he said he will no loger use Autotrader as they charge £6000.00 per year for him to advertise his cars (no limit to adverts). He then said ebay only charge him £600.00 per year for the same deal.

Is he right ? or was he just pulling my leg/making conversation.

He is samll trader, probably had about 20-25 cars on his forecourt.

One for Josh maybe?

Doesn't suprise me they charge businesses at all. But 6k seems excessive, surely they have a stepped scheme for the size of business?

We had been accused of being a phone dealer once by Gumtree, after a clear out of old hand sets. They wanted to charge for the adds, which where free at the time iirc.

A few years ago, I produced a website for a garage, just after they had put their prices right up. I can't remember the figure he quoted but it was in the £1000's per year.

It costs about £45 for an individual ad in Autotrader and if you're advertising 20 odd cars at a time......  ::)

So if a trader has a regular half page ad and you have a trade deal, I'd say that the figure of £6000 a year equating to £250 per magazine issue plus the website would be believeable IMO  ???

It's still a huge cost to his business tho....  :-\
