Just returned from a Asda shop
Leaving car park and up pops a warning on the dash display
"Headlamp Range"
Never had this before or in fact heard of it
The headlamps are HID zenons
Can any one help please and clue me in to what is wrong
And the remedial action required ?
Thanks

Check the arm hasn`t popped off on the front sensor, bolted to n/s wishbone
-
Thanks Rob
About to start the Winter wheels to All weather wheels swap over
So I can easy check then
I'll come back and let you know in about an hour
Thanks :y

Spot on Rob :y :y :y
Thanks
What has happened is the shaft with the ball joints on each end is still OK
With the balljoints still in place but well rusted (possibly seized)
Its the sensor arm that has dislocated itself from i'ts socket
So I suppose best to replace the sensor with a dealer part
Unless you have a good one
If you have PM me
You're interest and spot on diagnosis much appreciated :y :y

Sorry Cliff, none here. Megabucks from VX. Try greasing the arm "cups" and balljoints and usually a small cable tie to secure the arm produces good results
-
OK Rob
Thanks again
I'll try Andy C for a price
And do that trick with the cable tie
Till I can get a replacement sorted

...........
£100+ each :o and due to the new sensor having been modified you'll need to modify your loom to fit it. ??? ???
-
Ouch!!
Thanks for the info Andy
All this due to the winter road salts
Better check out the other 2 level sensors
IE lube the ball and sockets with silicone grease
-
Try lubing it up. If that doesn't help, PM me, and I'll have a root around for one here...

The rear kept popping off on my estate from the sensor. I wound some ptfe tape round it (4 times so not to over do it) and it has stayed on ok for 8 months now. Keith B

Thanks TB :y
I think I may have got the sensor sorted
The arm had dislodged itself out from the main body of the sensor
Managed to return it back to it's home position
The problem was the small connecting rod with a ball joint on each end
Both joints were badly corroded and just about seized solid
This obviously had forced the arm out of it's socket
I managed to ease the balls from their sockets
Then clean
Grease and get them back
The connecting rod on the rear sensor was also badly corroded
So that got the same treatment
I'm going to replace the connecting rods to both sensors SAP
I think it good idea to clag each end of the rods with a sticky stiff waterproof grease
This to hopefully prevent the corrosive winter road solution from entering the ball socket and causing such mayhem
Be sure I wiill be adding this task to my miggy winterising program in November each Yr
@ 100 quid per sensor thats a defo :o :o ;D
